Mindfulness is defined as, “paying attention to one’s own ongoing experience in a way that allows openness and flexibility. It is being fully present and aware during our daily activities” (Compton & Hoffman, 2013, p. 90). I learned of mindfulness a few years ago while reading, “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle and it changed my life. Mindfulness can be used in walking to focus thoughts and experience the surroundings which will lead to well-being because it makes it an experience instead of “just exercise”. Meditation is a practice I will integrate back into my daily routine which utilizes mindfulness and may enhance the possibility of flow.
Positive Health
The word “ingredient” usually makes a person think of cooking a meal or dish. What happens when we are missing an ingredient to a dish? It may not be as flavorful as it could be, that one ingredient could be the key that allows all the other ingredients to “react” and bring the flavors together, or the missing ingredient could cause the entire dish to fail. My creativity has always come from “thinking outside the box”, whether it has to do with work or helping others to see a situation from a different perspective. I have always thought I would enjoy painting but have not felt I would be good at it. I think going to a “cork and canvas” type event would provide me the opportunity to feel comfortable trying to paint. Attending a few events may give me the self-confidence to try painting on my own and allow me to express my thoughts, fears, and happiness in a creative way. My area of interest is in different spiritual doctrines and the people of them, traveling and seeing artwork from different regions of the world would provide insight into the people of the different religions and may allow me to see the bigger
Never Ending Process In the book “Night “, by Elie Wiesel conforming from Article five states that “No One Shall be subjected to torture or cruel inhuman punishment “. On page fifty - eight and fifty-seven it conclude that Wiesel received twenty five laches after witnessing Idek and a polish girl tornicating. There were cruel things happening there every single day . People would do bad things and for their punishment they would be hanged .
Thomas Paine wrote a series of articles known collectively as "The Crisis" to support his argument for independence from England during the Revolutionary War. Thomas Paine 's reasoning for writing this collection of articles is rather sound. The call to arms in this document calls “tens of thousands” to arms to battle Great Britain and their unfair rule over their country. Paine was justified in his writing, the unfair rule of the British government did need to be “called out” sort of speak.
“It is impossible to outplay an opponent you can’t outthink.” This quote by Lawson Little can be used to explain how in The Power of One, by Bryce Courtenay, Peekay’s ability to outthink his opponents is what drives him to victory. Furthermore, it does not have to be boxing that he out-thinks his opponents, there are numerous times where Peekay is shown thinking ahead of some situations saving him from misfortune, as well as outsmarting his opponents eventually leading him to victory. Peekay illustrates his intelligence by thinking ahead of situations, which in the end result, benefit him the most. To start off, with the judge on the brink of failing, Peekay “cast [his] mind back to when [he] had done the judges homework, just like that”
In Elie Wiesel’s memoir Night the word “sage” is used to contrast between God and mankind. The memoir explains that in contrast to an omnipotent god a human may be forced to form a decision based on a limited knowledge base, as an example while in the camp Akiba Drummer completely loses faith in god’s benevolence; he even claims that “god is no longer with the prisoners. ”(77) Because Akiba Drummer based this decision only on his own limited observations he arrived at an inccorect decision that caused him to lose “all incentive to fight;”(77) ultimately leading to his death. Knowledge Is Power Wiesel explains, “ Jews were prohibited from leaving their residences for three days, under penalty of death,” (Wiesel 10). The beginning of both texts start off with both authors living in the ghettos although both of them at different ages they both endured dehumanization throughout their texts. Sadly as the author's’ lives continuecontine on, Pickova's life ended in a concentration camp due to her being so young. Wiesel’s life continued on and he ended up being a Hholocaust survivor. The result of Wiesel living through the whole holocaust is him having to endure more pain and suffering throughout his life.
In recent decade, the United States has seen supermarkets continuously get filled with packages labeled with things like “Low sodium” or “No Trans Fats.” Companies stick these labels on their food to match the current fads of what is good for you and what is not. In his essay Unhappy Meals, Michael Pollan advocates a return to natural and basic foods, and deplores nutritionism. Pollan argues that nutritionism does not actually tell people what is healthy or not, and that the only way to be sure you are eating healthy is to eat natural, fresh food.

Elie Wiesel had a childhood full of adversity. When you’re exposed to so much violence and adversity at such a young age, your lifespan is shorter and you health declines rapidly. Studies show that children who are regularly affected by trauma have undeveloped brains and are more vulnerable to various diseases. Elie and his father were both exposed to violence during the rough times of the Holocaust. Violence made Elie question his faith in God, and made him grow numb to death and adversity.
Everyone on this earth is powerful in some way. “Powerful” is a vague yet profound word with different meanings. Power is exemplified in every character throughout literature. The main character from the graphic novel series, Maus, written by Art Spiegelman, exemplifies different types of power to help him get through life. Vladek Spiegelman from the graphic novel series Maus is the most powerful character since he uses his power of intelligence, strength, and resiliency to help him persevere through his traumatic life.

Most Americans in contemporary society run on an automatic default setting, not bothering to question what they attest to on an everyday basis. A monotonous routine sets in that transcends into future generations. In this current fast paced way of life it’s not difficult to fall into the trap of the unregulated food industry. The least of many concerns is to worry about a couple of unpronounceable words on the back of the cereal box one has for breakfast each morning. Many of these ingredients and their derivatives are unknown to the common shopper.
As we learn and practice mindfulness, we will become more aware, and others around us are likely to find us as helpful, patient, open-hearted, non-judgmental and compassionate human being. Being more mindful and aware will ultimately help us to live and enjoy our life to the full! Need we desire more? Mindfulness today, is one of the most talked about developments in human psychology, and innumerable researches are being undertaken across the globe to understand its positive effects and implications.
In general, a healthy diet can help to maintain a healthy body weight or improve overall health and decrease the risk of many diet-related chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and some cancers. There is a good evidence proved that eating a healthy diet can reduce the risk of obesity and illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis and some types of cancer. The foods that people consume contains several different types of nutrients, which are all required for the vital processes of human body. Impact and contribution of a healthy diet to a positive lifestyle are according to people’s lifestyle, behavioral and habits. Examples, eating habits, health awareness, physical activity, lifestyle practices, and others that will influence people’s lifespan and lifestyle.
Over the course of this winter quarter, I have learned in my class of Psychology of Wellness how to incorporate mindfulness into my daily life. The definition of mindfulness is considered an art. In the book of the Fully Present, the authors Susan Smalley and Diana Winston transmitted their wisdom on how to learn, practice and cultivate this art. According to the mentioned authors, they defined mindfulness as “the art of observing your physical, emotional, and mental experiences with deliberate, open, and curious attention” (2010, p.78). This definition shared by the authors is simple, but it communicates what are the characteristics that an individual needs to consider when it comes to being mindful.
