Did you know that during the Industrial Revolution children were forced to work in factories, and were being paid very little money? I do not think that it is right to make a child work and not get to have an education. In the article “Child Labor” it talks about child labor and how it has changed over the years.
Children are very fragile for a certain time, and many during the revolution became deformed or worse. For example “C: you are considerably deformed in person as a consequence of this labor? B: Yes I am.” (Document 7). This shows that some children weren’t properly cared for in their job. They later made rules to better the working environment for men and women. Children also started working at a very young age. For instance,” C: What time did you begin work at the factory? B: When I was six years old.” (Document 7). Children started working as soon as they could. Most had to work to help support their family. They were even payed less than women. By the mid 1800’s More and more things were made by machines. Clothes, shoes, Watches. These machines had to have operators. Work Conditions in the 1800’s were worse than bad. A regular work day was 11.4 hours for Men women and children. Many factories had rapidly moving pieces of machinery. Those machines where very dangerous to work around. These machines being fast moving belts to crushers that wouldn't stop on a dime. The factories they worked in were sometimes in poor condition. Somethings would fall from the roof injuring little kids or even adults.

In the Gilded age or the start of the industrial era, women and children were forced to leave their homes and try and get jobs in factories that were fit for them. This era created many new job opportunities than before. The number of women who now had actual jobs had increased drastically. Even though all these jobs had opened up women were only seen fit to do small tasks such as desk jobs that require little knowledge and skill to be able to do. Women forced into the work force tended to be poorer struggling individuals whose children were bound to labor as well. Major problems were faced in eras such as the Progressive Era. Such problems that people faced back then were women’s suffrage, child labor, and deforestation. If I was born in the generation where I had where to choose where to place $1,000,000 to certain cause, I would give it to the three things I have stated.

Child labor was a great problem in the Industrial Revolution. Factory owners usually hired women and children rather than men. They said that men expected higher wages, and they suspected that they were more likely to rebel against the company. Women and children were forced to work from six in the morning to seven at night, and this was when they were not so busy. They were forced to arrive on time and they couldn’t fall behind with their work because if they did they were whipped and punished. Industrialization had a massive toll on America and Europe. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because there were many job opportunities, although it was actually a negative thing for society. However, wealthy elementary students would learn in boarding schools, where substantial learning could be taught. Though elementary education lacked fair education environment before and during the early reform classrooms became more spacious and overall stronger learning environment when classes became grade level based. This meant elementary children would be learning with peers who were their age rather than high school student teenagers who were at a completely different learning level (Finkelman). The advancement in poor and rich schooling improved the space of a classroom and in turn, allowed for deeper understanding of teachings. *Even Women started being hired as teachers, opening up job opportunities for them and more elementary learning came out of having more teachers around. Child labor was a big problem in these factories. “The factory employs 16-18 year old students to make up for the understaffed factory. The students are expected to follow and fulfill the same responsibilities as their adult co workers.” (American Eagle Workers). Many of these young workers are not super educated. This is because they have to work a lot to support their families of themselves. If they are in the school process, it is not their first priority.
