1. Introduction
1.1 Background It has been said many times that education is the key to success, I believe that education is the key to purposeful social transformation. Education plays an important role in making progress in social transformation in South Africa. Because education is teaching and passing of values, knowledge and skills to others. Education does not only happen at schools but it also takes at home, churches, university and our communities. The role of education is to change the way we as people think and do things because the more you are taught about values like respect this can change the society, because if as people we respect each other this means that South Africa is going to be the place of peace and harmony because

Banking education makes learners to be passive objects because learners don’t have anything to say about their learning but educators tells them what to do. In this type of education teachers are the ones that know or have knowledge and they just pass it to learners without learner participation. It’s like knowledge is a gift that teachers just give to learners and the learner just have to open the gift. I believe that in order for education to be successful and transform our society in South Africa educators and learners must be involved in a dialogue whereby a teacher gives learners knowledge and learners must also participate to share their experiences with the rest of the class, this will help learners to build knowledge from their real life experiences. Freire Suggested that we use the new education system called ‘’problem posing model of education’’. In this type of education a teacher and a learner must confabulate, consider, argue and examine their background, contact and proof of their feelings and knowledge of the universe together. By doing so this is going to help to make education to transform our society because education will turn learners into creative and critical thinkers …show more content…
Ontology is about concern about things that exists in the universe, so banking education makes learners to be unable to think about things that exist in the universe because learners are not given an opportunity to think, to come up with ideas and students are not given an opportunity to talk but they only listen and by just listening one will not transform education because for education to transform the society, everyone opinions must be taken into consideration so that we know the needs and wants of people in the society, this can help to transform the society. Banking education hinders learners from knowing the dependence between variety aspects of society and asking the ontological questions such as what does it mean to be a good person? If children asked themselves the questions and answer them this is going to make learners to know who are they and this will make them to behave and have values which can transform the society. Anthropology pulls and construct over facts from social and relating to biology sciences. The epistemological view on banking education is that learners cannot construct their own knowledge because the teacher gives them knowledge and learners just listen and do what they are told to do. Epistemology sees education as philosophy of knowledge form so the problem posing model of education which is the
As a person achieves great success in his education career, the author is considered to be knowledgeable for the audience to trust his opinion. When reading his essay, readers can see the value, benefits, and importance of education

Africa Should Model Its Education Like Finland And Canada Education is the systematic process of improving learning, knowledge, skill and understanding about anything at school, colleges, universities and other educational institutes which gives people an enlightening experience. African education is very poor and they should model it like Finland and Canada. In order to better understand African education and how it can be modeled like Finland and Canada, one needs to know about their problems such as financial issues, shortage of universities, shortages of teachers and lack of learning equipment such as ICT (Information Communication Technology). Through my experience as an African, many people do not get education due to money issues.
The former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, once said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. To change the world people often use physical violence. However, even if they solve the problem, it is only for a short period of time. Using education, people can back up their statements and actions. In this quote, education can mean many different things, such as being intelligent, logical, having a strong mental, and being calm.
Education provides children with the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty that they would not have
In Paulo Freire’s essay The “Banking” Concept of Education, Freire highlights two differing forms of education: “banking” and “problem posing”. The banking concept is one in which the students are simply being “filled” by the teachers’ transferal of information, rather than actually learning material (Freire 216). This type of education resists dialogue and suggests that the students are simply objects in a passive setting that they have essentially accepted. Often this causes certain facts to be concealed and a lack of true critical thinking, especially about reality. On the opposite side of the spectrum, problem posing encourages communication.
In many countries living in extremely poor conditions, not only is basic health an issue but also the lack of education. Although it is a necessity, “more than 72 million children of primary education age are not in school and 759 million adults are illiterate” (Rights to Education 1). The deprivation of education should be taken serious if a change is wanted. People need to become aware of how important education is and the benefit that it has.
The significance of education cannot be stated enough, which is an investment to a better future. Getting an education is one of the most powerful things a person can ever obtain. It is crucial to the overall development of the individual and the society as a whole. When individuals do not have the option of getting an education due to the cost of the schools as well as the lack of schools itself. For those living in poverty it can be difficult to earn the same amount of education as other people who are considered middle or high class.
Paulo Freire argues that the relationship between a teacher and a student is a system of oppression. Where a teacher has absolute and total control over their students’ way of thinking. Freire refers to this as “The Banking Concept of Education,” where teachers teach and students listen and don’t question what they are being told. In the banking concept, teachers are depositing and students are the depositories. To Freire the banking system of education is destroying creativity and individualism in student.
Education is interconnected with every single strand of the economy, laws, jobs, research… I believe that education is not only one of the most important factors in a development of a country but instead, it has a greater significance than other factors. First and Foremost, Education is the foundation of our society. It gives us the power of knowledge and the power of assisting others. Nelson Mandela once said: “Education is the most powerful weapons which you can use to change the world – The Former
Introduction: Education is a basic need of every human being. Every country has their own education system with a motive of “to make their people well educated and civilized”. Schools, colleges, universities, Affiliation Boards, teacher, lecturers, professors, students etc all these entities form the system called an educations system. So we can say that: “Education Education system is a collection of interrelated entities or components that work in collaboration to achieve the common goal i.e. educate the students.”
The manner in which manner is received plays a crucial role in the life of everyone but as much as that is important to the human existence, the manner in which education is given is just as vital. Amy Gutmann “proposes a democratic state of education that requires parents and states to cede some professional authority to professional educators. Meaning the good of children includes not just individual freedom of choice, but also identification with and participation in the good of their family and the politics of their society” (Divala & Mathebula, 2016, p. 275). The below will discuss Amy Gutmann’s theory of democratic education briefly, the South African education system and the extent to which it resonates with Gutmann’s theory and four aspects of the current education system that can be improved to enhance democracy in education system.
Instructive idea is a subject that has altered throughout the decades, and still nowadays not every person is in complete special consideration to the subject. In any case, one thing is sure rationality is the establishment of educational styles. There are four basic philosophies: Realism, Idealism, Pragmatism and Existenlism. Each of the four philosophies are altogether different, however all make progress toward a similar objective, to better our education framework. Although each teacher has an alternate style of showing that can be viewed as their own, they follow one of the four fundamental theories.
The purpose of education is to create the “catalyst”, - the interest, the imagination, the self-confidence, the enthusiasm for further knowledge that helps a person grow beyond what they believe they can be. Education should help develop skills and knowledge, so students can be productive members of society. The more knowledge you have, the more opportunities you have in life. I think back to my childhood and the teachers that made an impact in my life. I want to be that catalyst for students.
Education as an instrument of social change: One of the most formidable and potent tool of social change is Education. The society can bring about pertinent and much sought after desirable changes through education and modernize itself. By creating the right kind of ambience and by providing ample opportunities and experiences, education can enable an individual to cultivate and groom himself for adjustment with the emerging needs and philosophy of the changing society and aid in the can transformation of society as a whole. A sound social progress needs careful and meticulous planning in every dimension of life, be it political, economic, social and cultural. Education must be tailored to suit the needs of the society
