Role of Education in Sustainable Development
Education plays an important role for the sustainable development of the nation by providing skilled and technically sound generation. Education is the foundation for a country’s sustainable development in its economic, social and environmental dimensions . As the post 2015 goal setting process continues, education has increasingly been discussed as not only development goal in its own right, but also a key way of reaching other development goals. And for good reason, a country that provides free access to quality education for all its citizens is for more likely to reduce poverty, promote economic growth, lower child and maternal mortality and achieve social inclusion . It is also critical for achieving environmental and ethical awareness, values and attitudes, skills and behavior consistent with sustainable development and for effective public participation in decision making. To be effective, environment and development education should deal with the dynamics of both the physical/biological and socio-economic environment and human (which may include spiritual) development, should be integrated in old disciplines, and should employ formal and non-formal methods and effective means of communication . Research has shown that education can improve agricultural productivity, enhance the status of women, reduce population growth rates, enhance environmental protection, and generally raise the standard of living . Nine to twelve years of education is required for increased industrial productivity. This level of education also increases the probability of employment in a changing economy. An educated citizenry is vital to implementing informed and sustainable development. In fact a national sustainability plan can be enhanced or limited by the level of education attained by the nation …show more content…
Development options, especially sustainable development options, develop as education increases. Education sustains the human values which contribute to individual and collective well-being. Education can enhance the effectiveness of each policy instrument by developing information engagement, agency and empowerment among all affected stakeholders. Further, education can build lasting change that is sustainable change, because it is owned by the learner and reaches hearts and minds. The education sustains the human values which contribute to individual and collective well-being. It forms the basis for lifelong learning and inspires confidence to face challenges. Even though education is valuable to students, the society also desires it to make it safer and healthier. In my opinion, education will be beneficial to those who do their very best in their high school and college years. According to research, education has been a key factor for improving people’s quality of life (Guijarro-Garfield et al., 2022). Many people can now pursue dream goals in life. More people are also contributing to the growth of America by becoming scientists and developing much needed new technology. Even though the NDEA has already helped education tremendously, many new improvements are still to come. In addition, amongst other targets, the Sustainable Development Goal seeks to ensure that every child completes free primary education by the year 2030 (Guijarro-Garfield et al., 2022).

The significance of education cannot be stated enough, which is an investment to a better future. Getting an education is one of the most powerful things a person can ever obtain. It is crucial to the overall development of the individual and the society as a whole. When individuals do not have the option of getting an education due to the cost of the schools as well as the lack of schools itself. For those living in poverty it can be difficult to earn the same amount of education as other people who are considered middle or high class.
I agree with the assertion that in the context of Sustainable Development ‘the reality of life today is that the economy dominates environment and society. The Concept of Sustainable Development Sustainable development refers to “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs”, and was produced by the Brundtland report (WCED, 1987). The concept also takes into account the needs of the poor in developing countries by outlining achievable objectives of importance (WCED, 1987).
The conclusion conveyed at the end of this paper, will be that sustainable development is a concept with weaknesses however, the strengths outweigh them. To begin with, the concept of sustainable development famously culminated in 1987 with the United Nations 'Commission on Environment and Development ' also known as the 'Brundtland Report ' (Everard & Longhurt, 2017; pp. 1244). The article introduced, the most widely known definition of Sustainable development as "Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" (World Commission on Environment and Development, 1987).
Introduction: Education is a basic need of every human being. Every country has their own education system with a motive of “to make their people well educated and civilized”. Schools, colleges, universities, Affiliation Boards, teacher, lecturers, professors, students etc all these entities form the system called an educations system. So we can say that: “Education Education system is a collection of interrelated entities or components that work in collaboration to achieve the common goal i.e. educate the students.”
The reading assignments for this week has been very educative about the environment and making it a better place for living. Sustainable development, as its name suggests, is a concept continually elaborating. The most commonly used definition, according to World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED), is the development which “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (WCED, 1987). It shows the importance of considering benefits for both current and future generations and strongly supports economic development, while it also implies when accessing environment and natural resources, human beings tend to take an anthropocentric view, that the primary goal is to satisfy human needs. With no regard for earth as a life-support system, a development will not be considered sustainable. Therefore, by taking economic, social, environmental issues into accounts is a key approach to develop sustainably in different contexts.
Introduction Prior to taking this course, my perspective on globalization was very limited because I had very little knowledge and experience with this topic. I never gave much thought to the educational practices or policies that are implemented across the globe. There are many factors to consider when it comes to the process that these countries have taken to successfully integrate technology into their K-12 education system. Before even taking this course I will admit that I have thought about how great it would be to connect with educators or health professionals across the globe, but I never thought I could make it happen.
