Education in the broadest sense is any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character, or physical ability of an individual. In its technical sense, education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills and values from one generation to another. The dictionary of education defines education as “the aggregate of all the processes by which a person develops ability, attitudes and other forms of behaviour of practical value, in the society he lives”. According to Swami Vivekananda, “Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in men.” The role of education in facilitating social and economic progress is well recognized. Through education skilled and qualified manpower is produced. Education in various disciplines provides knowledge, develops skills necessary for a successful performance for the continued existence. Education is a dynamic phenomenon. It is an instrument which helps the development of human standards and ideals. It keeps on developing with the society of which it is a part. Education whatever may be its form, sets the pace for future progress. In brief, Education in its broadest sense of development of youth is the most vital effort for empowering people with skills and knowledge and giving them access to productive employment in future. Education not only enhances efficiency but also augments the overall quality of life and thus is essential for country’s economic growth. Article 45
