Education In The Broadest Sense Of Education

What is education and how does that education lead to success? Many authors and historic figures have reached education through many different paths. According to them, being educated does not mean a diploma judges your level of intelligence. Although, it is argued that to be successful one must an educated person. I believe that to be educated, one must not give up in the learning process no matter the difficulty of it because education is involved in one’s success paths, but the way education is learned does not define the destined path to success.

Education was not at its best during this time. It was thought of as a privilege, not as a necessity. For example,” C: What were the usual hours of labor when [children] were not thronged? B: From six in the morning till [seven] at night.” (Document 7). This shows that children were working rather than going to school. Instead of getting an education, some kids were providing extra money for their family. This also showed that the hours children worked were long and allowed no time for other activities. Another example is, “Lots of children (…, not at school,[money] issue)”(document 6). There were a lot of children in one family, so money was an issue which was why most children worked. They were at home or at the factories they didn’t go

Education is the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life. In each essay, all three authors ward against the dangers with the education system of their era. Whether it be diversity, segregation or the goals of the system itself the authors believe changes need to be made, as education systems form the future leaders of our society. Through their text the authors believe they must solve the faults within the education systems, to conform society to what they believe is morally and ethically correct.

In Nancy Heitzeg article “Education or Incarnation: Zero Tolerance Polices And The School To Prison Pipeline” she argues that youth of color are especially at risk for being pushed out of the school system which pushes them onto the street and then into juvenile. Zero tolerance is severely punishing students for committing wrong doings no matter how big or minor they are. This is most certainly a race crime. I remember reading an article for my social work class that stated the United States has the highest incarceration rate. What is even more alarming is the fact the New York state builds future beds in Riker’s Island and in upstate prisons depending on how many African Americans are born today. In today's world, education plays a vital role in the development of a person.  We can easily distinguish between an educated person and an uneducated person. Education is compulsory for every human being. And not to mention the cut-throat competition in the professional life.

John Dewey and Ernest Boyer are both very well thought of educators as well as philosophers. In reading both of their articles I found myself thinking of my own philosophies on education and found that I could side with one or the other. I liked parts of their education ideals and other thoughts seemed either outdated or didn’t fall in line of how I feel education should be viewed. I think both have some great ideas as well as ideals but if I had to side with one or the other I would go more along with Boyer’s thoughts than Dewey.

Malcolm X once said “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepared for it today.” In the western world education plays a vital role in shaping our future; it determines if we will survive or fail in the world we created for ourselves. Our world is constantly changing and it requires a society that is well versed in understanding the problems deriving from cultural differences and tolerance of one another’s beliefs and perceptions. With the power of education we are able to deal with the problems of economic, government, religion and culture differences.

Our family can only eat whatever we grow on a small plot of land located a short way from our house. We have no other form of income so if we are unable to pick anything to eat from the land we go without food on that day. This happens a lot and we regularly go several days without any food at all. When we do pick vegetables from the land it’s very rarely enough for the whole family to be fed so my husband and I have to decide who will eat that day. My educational goal is to earn a degree in Biology and Spanish from the University of California, Riverside, in hopes of getting a job inside the laboratory department at Kaiser. Based on labs that I have already done at the University, I found that I enjoy working in a similar setting. I would love to have the opportunity to shadow a connoisseur in a similar work environment, as it would be a valuable learning experience.

Education is crucial. It develops us as a whole, which leads to discovery, which then, leads to greatness. Education is the catalyst of every country, and we all know that. It’s common sense. Education is the powerhouse for us to keep on moving. Education is interconnected with every single strand of the economy, laws, jobs, research… I believe that education is not only one of the most important factors in a development of a country but instead, it has a greater significance than other factors.

Education is a priority around the world, nowadays schools are very common and are for educating our next generation. Animal Farm a book by George Orwell, takes place on Manor Farm a farm owned by Mr. Jones, who the animals revolt against and eventually kick out. The animals rename the farm “Animal Farm” and create their own political system known as animalism. education is important and has many advantages with an education comes the chance to receive better jobb, education decreases the poverty rate , and education develops the economy.

Education is a basic need of every human being. Every country has their own education system with a motive of “to make their people well educated and civilized”. Schools, colleges, universities, Affiliation Boards, teacher, lecturers, professors, students etc all these entities form the system called an educations system. So we can say that:

The purpose of education is to create the “catalyst”, - the interest, the imagination, the self-confidence, the enthusiasm for further knowledge that helps a person grow beyond what they believe they can be. Education should help develop skills and knowledge, so students can be productive members of society. The more knowledge you have, the more opportunities you have in life. I think back to my childhood and the teachers that made an impact in my life. I want to be that catalyst for students. I want to send them out into the world being able to realize their full potential and capable of thinking intensively and critically.

My first reaction to having to read True Education by Ellen G. White was “oh great, I have to read another Ellen White book.” Throughout my life I was preached at about how Ellen White said such and such, meaning if I do not follow what she says I am a rebelious and unrighteous person. With this being said, I am glad that I was able to put my negative thoughts aside and dig deep into the topics, because after reading the book I have gained some new ideas and perspectives on how to go about educating in the classroom. However, I am only going to focus on the few that really stuck out to me. Some of them being able to comprehend the nature of human beings and their purpose, using several different teaching tactics, and the need for teachers and parents to work together.

One of the most formidable and potent tool of social change is Education. The society can bring about pertinent and much sought after desirable changes through education and modernize itself. By creating the right kind of ambience and by providing ample opportunities and experiences, education can enable an individual to cultivate and groom himself for adjustment with the emerging needs and philosophy of the changing society and aid in the can transformation of society as a whole. A sound social progress needs careful and meticulous planning in every dimension of life, be it political, economic, social and cultural. Education must be tailored to suit the needs of the society
