Education is the overall growth of an individual. An education should provide opportunities to develop a person physically, mentally and spiritually.
“Education should be given equally to all the students regardless of age, gender, intellectual ability and social status. Education should be provided in an environment that develops the life-long learning capacities of its students which would prepare students for productive lives in a modern, technological society. It should be an endeavor to prepare students to be critical thinkers who are independent, confident and assertive. It is important to inculcate these skills in the students because the society that they live in constantly changes. Lau & Chan (2004-2013) state critical thinking as “the ability to think clearly and rationally. It includes the ability to engage in reflective and independent thinking.” The society that they live in is diverse and versatile, so the problem that they come across will vary and they should be able to deal with the problems with their ability to reason, analyze and with their power of critical thinking. If these skills are enhanced in them, then they will be able to tackle problems rationally and appropriately. They should be aware and be more tolerant of cultural, ethnic and religious diversity. Their minds should be open towards differences among people and should not be narrow-minded or single minded about religion. Islam is a religion of tolerance.
