1 Introduction to Education in England
This thesis deals with general terminology, such as structure of education, political parties or election manifestos. It provides the fundamental theoretical basis necessary for further elaboration of theoretical part, as well as analytical part. It covers important areas that form a big part of this thesis and are further built upon.

1.1 The Basic Structure of Education System in England
Structure of the education system can be confusing due to different terminology used in different countries. To provide better understanding of the topic, this subchapter focuses on explaining basic terms related to the structure of education in England. Basic division includes five types: early years, primary education, secondary education, further education and higher education.
Early years education refers to education provided for all three and four-year olds. Parents are entitled to have their children taken care of in state or private nursery schools, nursery classes, pre-schools or childminders for up to 15 hours a week for 38 weeks of the year for free. The Education Act 2002 introduced the Foundation Stage which includes children’s education from the age of three to the age of five.
