Jade Mimoso 9/10/15 Argumentative Essay 1 Do you think that Juvenile Justice Centers are beneficial for troubled teens? Well, they actually aren’t beneficial at all. I don’t think that they are beneficial because, some centers don’t help the troubled teens get on track, the center doesn’t have the same educational standards as regular schooling, and most of the kids that get out are still troubled. Let me explain why. For Starters, the Juvenile Justice center doesn’t help some of the troubled teens.
Standardized Testing While can be beneficial, standardized testing isn't improving American education. Standardized testing evaluates only the individual performance of a student instead of the overall growth of a student over the course of a year. In my opinion, Standardized testing is not enhancing education in America. Not all students who are smart and take in all the information test well. For instance, there are many people who simply do not perform well on tests.
This means that your classis curved test in favor of the minority. Whereas the non-minority did not have this opportunity. This is another reason why it is not fair. School should be based on merit meaning by the person’s ability and their good will to achievement. However, the nonminority wore able o have lower standers and pass the classes with lower graded.

According to Wayne Camara and Amy Schmidt in “Group Differences in Standardized Testing and Social Stratification”, This is a big reason minority groups tend to do worse. The minority students who come from high socio economic households tend to do decently well on standardized testing, however, they are far from being the majority and often aren’t discussed at all when these topics come up. Unfortunately, though, as we have seen there is a still a lag of minority groups compared to other groups even when the household status is the same. This is speculated to be due to the fact that they are often lacking in academic preparation due to inner-city schools and lack of rigorous courses (Camara and Schmidt, 1999). They often come from households with low expectations and family support, which are two incredibly huge factors when it comes to academically succeeding.
Some people from SJR are careless too but I still think that there is a higher number of careless people in public schools than in SJR. Wealth does encourage carelessness but in SJR wealth doesn't seem to have an affect on how a person is. That's why I wouldn't really like to attend a school where there is less conspicuous

The reason why I am academically successful in high school comes down to my work ethic. I personally believe that as long as a student works hard in high school, they can get good grades. I have friends who do not work as hard as they could and it reflects in their grades. Not to say that they have bad grades because they do not, but, if they put more effort into school they could have significantly higher GPA 's. However, work ethic, while important, is not they only necessary trait to be successful in college.
“Single-sex education, common in the United States until the 19th century, when it fell into deep disfavor except in private or parochial schools, is on the rise again in public schools as educators seek ways to improve academic performance, especially among the poor.”( Rich, Motoko - New York Times) “The majority of single-sex schools are private or independent, which means parents are paying fees to educate their children, because they believe single-sex schools provide an academic advantage co-ed schools don’t. (Tasovac, Brooke - Child)” This shows that the poor people aren’t getting a good enough education because they don’t have the money for the single-sex
