Milkman does this by going on a journey into his family's past to backtrack to his grandfather, Macon Dead the first, to find out his family’s past.

He wrote many of him poems, plays, and essays in his firm, but when one of his friends gave him a copy of Selected Epitaphs from the Greek Anthology, which is a collection of Epitaphs that captured the essence of people’s personal lives. Edgar Lee Masters used the advice from the Epitaph to disregard conventional rhyme and meter, to produce a series of poems about lives of people in rural southern Illinois. Throughout the history of American Literature, there have been hundreds of influential pieces which have left a mark on other writers. The book “In Honor of David Anderson Brooks, My Father” by Gwendolyn Brooks utilizes a unique writing style, theme and American values. This text was sharing her father’s story and personality to the reader before he passed away. He presumably lived alone and maintained his own home.

From 1933 to 1945 up to six million Jews died in the Holocaust. Think about how many of them were a father or a son. That means that someone could have lost their father, son, or brother. In the novel Night, by Elie Wiesel, it tells the story of fifteen year old Elie, his experience in the Holocaust, and how he survived it with his father. In Maus, by Art Spiegelman, Artie interviews his father Vladek, a survivor of the Holocaust, and writes a graphic novel on his experience.

In Maus, Art Spiegelman records his personal accounts of trying to delve into his father’s traumatic past. His father, Vladek, is a Jew from Poland who survived persecution during World War II. Art wants to create a graphic novel about what his father went through during the Holocaust, so he reconnects with Vladek in order to do so. Due to the horrifying things that the Jews went through he has trouble opening up completely about all the things that happened to him. But after Art gets together with his father many times, he is finally able to understand the past legacy of the Spiegelman family.

In the journal Faulkner and the Civil War: Myth and Reality by Douglas T. Miller states, "... The author Miller explains also the similarities between Faulkner 's great-grandfather and of his character Colonel Sartoris with such as, "... both fought well, but were demoted in rank ..." After Poe was honorably discharged from the military, he married his 12 year old cousin who died shortly of tuberculosis. These events heavily contributed to his writing style by giving events to base stories as well as a viewpoint on the world. Overall, Edgar Allan Poe’s twisted and ominous writing style focuses on using physical imagery and connotative syntax to show imagery. Through Poe’s short stories and poems, Edgar Allan Poe visual and metaphorical imagery to illustrate the theme of revenge and death. In the short story, The Cask of Amontillado, Poe uses strong descriptive adjectives and physical descriptions to convey imagery.

The book I read was Empty Mansions by Bill Dedman and Paul Clark Newell, Jr. Empty Mansions is a biography telling the rags to riches tale of William Andrews Clark, a man who grew up in a log cabin and worked his way to a glorious mansion on Fifth Avenue. Throughout the biography, Dedman and Clark share the faded and forgotten memory American entrepreneur and politician, William Andrews Clark. While some historical figures in American History such as Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington are remembered by all, and even cherished through national holidays, other figures’ legacies are not so celebrated.

Born in 1767, Andrew Jackson grew a military career into political fame. Elected in 1828, he began an era of so-called Jacksonian Democracy with his party, the Democratic party. During his presidency, Jackson tackled three major issues: the rechartering of the Second Bank of the United States, the Nullification Crisis, and rising tension between the native Indian Americans and Georgians who wanted to expand. George was also one of eight children, although only he and his sister Mamie survived. George Jr. early life as a child he was very bad and did things that would see him get into a lot of trouble. He would cause trouble in his neighborhood and also skip school.

Jesse Woodson James was born in Clay county, Missouri, near the present day town of Kearny on september 5, 1847. The particular area that Jesse was born in happened to be settled by many people that were originally from the upper south, such as the states of Kentucky and Tennessee. This helped the plot of territory earn its nickname “Little Dixie”. Jesse was born into a family of two other full siblings, his eldest brother, Alexander Franklin James, and a younger sister, Susan Lavenia James. His father, Robert S. James, was a commercial hemp farmer, and baptist pastor who originally lived in Kentucky before coming to Missouri.
