Although we live in the XXI century and it seems like millions of people are around, we can suddenly become stricken with a sharp pain of loneliness. But it is important to understand the difference between so close notions as “loneliness” and “being alone”. To be alone means to have no company at the moment, while the meaning of the “loneliness” lies in the fact that it can happen to you anytime, no matter where you are. You can feel lonely even if you are in the middle of one million people crowd, when you are hanging out with your friends or spending time with you family members. Being alone is a fleeting transient notion, while loneliness is one of the harshest feelings people can feel and suffer from. Join a book group, volunteer for a project at work or university, work for a political cause you believe in, take a meal to a neighbor who is recovering from surgery so this way he/she will be in contact with other people and will have something to talk about. Volunteering helps create social contacts that help reduce stress. It may be unpaid, but it may help the human to find a new purpose in life. Person’s social status will also be upgraded when you give back to the society. To conclude with this solution there is no bad sides that are connected with volunteering and this is feasible and should really help to minimize the problem. To add, it is very important to share own feelings and emotions with other people who care about you. Consider support groups in your community if person does not have friends or family. An individual can also form or join a support group that will help him/her share experiences other people have been through. Sharing own experiences will make everyone feel better and less stressed.
