CHAPTER TWO 2.0 Literature review The chapter gives a review of literature related to the study on the effects of culture on academic performance of boys secondary schools in Samburu north constituency, Samburu county in a clear and precise way.it also presents literature on the effective teaching and learning methods used by teachers in improving academic performances of the learners and also the reliability of the teaching and learning methods. 2.1 Effects of classroom teaching and learning culture on academic performance of the learners. Culture is a complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs, morals, customs and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of the society(Edward Tylor,2009).this means that culture refers to the way and the life of people in terms of their interaction in the past and in the present. Classroom teaching and learning culture reflects the teacher and the learner interaction during classroom teaching and learning, available teaching and learning resources and the students’ arrangement in the class since student arrangement in the class also play a key role in measuring the academic performance of the learners as well as their conduct and behavior (jones and Vernon 2008).for a teacher to be considered good and perfect during classroom teaching and learning, the mastery of the content is the key aspect, apart from content mastery, the teacher also must understand that learners have different strategies for learning and
