It is a wish for most students to continue or further their studies in a foreign country because they want to gain new experiences and acquire new skills so that their life can be more interesting and challenging. “Culture shock applies to any new situation, job, relationship, or perspective requiring a role adjustment and a new identity (David and Chapman 26)” However, international undergraduates will sometime find it difficult to adapt with the new location. Even if stuffs have been prearranged, they will still face the culture distress. There are several causes and their effect of culture shock. Students will find it challenging to adapt with new life style namely the new environment, new culture, and new education system. …show more content…

Students will have faces like communication. They may feel nervous to communicate with local people and might be afraid that they will make a mistake or appear not confident in communication. Students also may not understand the dialect and cannot catch the talking speed of the local people. For instance, students may not comprehend completely what message that the lecturer wants to deliver or instruction given. Besides that, local people may have different sets of values and norms. It takes time to form trust with the local people such as the house owner may feel reluctant to rent an apartment to international students. It is also not very easy to get local people helps when in need during emergency and in sick condition. Local may not be companionate to give their support. In addition, students may find hard to fit in with the different culture. There have different faith and believes such as religion and celebration. Students may not be comfortable with local culture of social behavior such as clubbing, partying, and drinking. They will also feel uneasy to see close relationship for example couples that kissing and hugging in public area. They can also feel annoyed to see relationship of same
