Small pox became on of the dangerous popular disease that killed more than 80 to 90 percent of Native Americans populations. The trades with Native Americans and Europeans were peaceful in the beginning but then it started harsh because Native Americans disputes in with the deals. Europeans helped out Native Americans with technology and Native's with their stay on land. Food and resources were depended on the Native Americans because they had given Europeans shelter. Native Americans were pressured to give Europeans food. Europeans threatened the Native Americans to make a disaster with
I must say that European and Native Americans lives were drastically changed. Although, the Indians suffered mistreatment from the Europeans due to the Europeans taking their land.
The arrival of Europeans had a tremendous effect on the Natives American. Millions of Indians had died from diseases, they lost their homes to European settlers. The Native Americans and the colonists lived peacefully for fifty years until 1675, when the two broke and went to wars. Mary Rowlandson, her town was one of the many towns that got attacked by the Indian. According to the Dictionary.
After the Civil War ended many people were in hope of finding land since population was increasing. Since the West was underdeveloped and uncivilized, many decided to expand the land. First the Louisiana Purchase increased the opportunity of expansion. Then industrialization and the Homestead Act also caused many companies encouraged to move West due to the low cost of land and that the transportation was provided through the railroads. In order to complete such goals, something had to be done with the Natives since it conflicted with their home area.
Starting in the late fifteenth century, French and English explorers went on voyages to see America and to discover North America. When they landed, they came across these native Americans. During the French regime (1534-1763), the French explorers found the natives to be very useful. In some cases, they used the natives for the benefits of the mother country or the colony by profiting off of natural resources for example animal furs. There were positive results on the French colonizers, such as their profit gained from native relations and the territorial expansion, and negative consequences to the natives including the population decline caused by European disease and increasing tension between different native groups.
European Colonists and American Indians interacted in different ways that established a variety of relationships among the different cultures and people, varying region to region. In the colony of New England, the two main groups of people were the English Puritan settlers, who were primarily driven by religious duty, and the Pequot Tribe, who were one of the most powerful Native American tribes in that region. In 1620, just before the English arrived, a smallpox epidemic among various other diseases, devastated various Native American tribes located throughout New England, including the Wampanoag and Pequot tribes. This plague subsequently killed three fourths of the indigenous population located in the region of New England.
western expansion affected native American lives in so many ways, it would take a book to say it all. So just to mention a few. It affected there way of life. It affected what they believed in from there traditional teachings. They saw everything change when they couldn't figure out why they were treated so bad after they welcome everyone that landed.
The way the government handled issues during land ordinance was handled in a positive way, but it had a negative impact on the native Americans. The colonies were getting overcrowded and there were less job opportunities for people so many decided to move out. The Native American land had been taken away from them, they were wiped out of their homes and it did involve violence. The map shows how much the colonist had expanded their land into the native American land. On the bright side the land the land had provided many affordable homes for people like the township.
The Native Americans had no choice but to play the French and British against each other. By the time of the French and Indian War, they were not just playing the French against the British for goods and guns. (1) It became necessary for the survival of their culture, and the natives were concerned with the vast amounts of land being claimed and settled by the British. The French and Indians were more likely to be allies, although the British did have Native American allies.
Native Americans flourished in North America, but over time white settlers came and started invading their territory. Native Americans were constantly being thrown and pushed off their land. Sorrowfully this continued as the Americans looked for new opportunities and land in the West. When the whites came to the west, it changed the Native American’s lives forever. The Native Americans had to adapt to the whites, which was difficult for them.
Quite simply put, Europeans viewed Africans and Native Americans as inferior to themselves. They were considered to be heathens and barbarians by the Europeans. And, at least initially, they were not Christian. It was believed that Europeans could save both Native Americans and Africans not only spiritually but also economically and socially. This type of attitude also most likely made it much easier for the Europeans to discriminate and exploit them.
The Europeans came mostly in peace; however, the Native Americans saw the newcomers as a threat to their livelihood. Amoroleck, an Indian captured by the Europeans after a clash between the two, explained that the Native Americans attacked the settlers because they believed the settlers “were a people come from under the world, to take their world from them.” (Merrell 45) With early conflicts, neither party was coming out victorious with their losses out numbering their winnings between the Indians and Europeans. Eventually, the Native Americans would accept the Europeans and even live jointly, aiding one another whether it was determining the best hunting grounds, planting the right crops in the right area, or incorporating lifestyles by helping round up escaped slaves. The two parties learned to make the most out and how to benefit from each other.
When the Europeans began colonizing the New World, they had a problematic relationship with the Native Americans. The Europeans sought to control a land that the Natives inhabited all their lives. They came and decided to take whatever they wanted regardless of how it affected the Native Americans. They legislated several laws, such as the Indian Removal Act, to establish their authority. The Indian Removal Act had a negative impact on the Native Americans because they were driven away from their ancestral homes, forced to adopt a different lifestyle, and their journey westwards caused the deaths of many Native Americans.
Throughout the late 1400’s and the 1500’s, the world experienced many changes due to the discoveries of new lands and peoples that had been never been visited before. The new-found lands of the Americas and exploration of Africa by the Europeans led to new colonies and discoveries in both areas. It also brought different societies and cultures together that had never before communicated, causing conflict in many of these places. While the Europeans treated both the Native Americans and West Africans as inferior people, the early effects they had on the Native Americans were much worse. Beginning in the late 1400’s, many different European explorers started to look for new trade routes in the Eastern Hemisphere in order to gain economic and religious power.
During the late 15th and early 16th centuries, eExplorers from Europe had made vast advancements on traveling methods and shipbuilding and had new methods to travel the world. Due to needs for faster trade routes or access to new markets, most powers, starting with Portugal, had started sending Explorers to find different ways to trade and navigate. This would eventually lead them to the New World where they would meet people of different culture. Explorers during this period have many positive and negative effects on the natives. Europeans indirectly killed off native with diseases, enslaved natives with cruel slave methods, and tried to completely erase the native cultures in place of the typical European cultures and religion.
While the colonization of the America’s was negative for many reasons such as the spread of illnesses, and the forcing of religion upon natives, it was also beneficial to the Native’s because it allowed them to have better weapons and to have different foods and goods in their lives. The Europeans exposed the Natives to many new diseases once they colonized the new areas they discovered. The Europeans greatly impacted the family life and religion of the inhabitants of the areas they found. There was also a lot of exchange going on during the conquest of the Americas because the Natives were excited by the new gadgets they had never seen before that the Europeans brought over.
