Our report on Migration and Filipino Family Life, Society and Culture generally talks about the social impacts of migration to the Filipino society, especially to the families of Overseas Filipino Workers. Assessing the social effects of labor migration, there appeared a lot more costs than benefits, which include incomplete families, change in parenting to the children left behind, the search of the children for role models through their parents, and the children-parent relationship. Furthermore, our topic includes the growing culture of migration of the Filipinos stating the factors that lead to such and the reasons why Filipinos choose to work abroad (generally socio-economic reasons) and would choose to stay (largely social) in the Philippines; and how Filipinos, especially the youth, perceive migration today.
Giving the overview of our topic, I can say that knowing the social effects of migration is vital because it shows the negative implications of Filipino migration that many take into consideration, and most of the time, disregard mainly for the sake of granting the socio-economic benefits to their families to secure their future.
Our report is relevant in a way that despite the many negative and incalculable social impacts of Filipino migration, some Filipinos sacrifice and still choose to work abroad to better the life condition of their families back home. This thus shows the willingness of the Filipinos to continually try to provide comfortable lives to their
