Another reason is most jobs available today, start at early times and if students don’t start learning now to go to sleep at a decent time and get up early, will they ever? If people are used to having to get up at 8:30 am to go to school and then they all of a sudden have to go to work at 6:30 am, they will most likely be late. Most places of employment take being on time very seriously so they could potentially lose their job if they don’t come to work on time. So that is why the divide between parents who want school hours to stay the same and who want school hours to start later is split pretty
Unhealthy problems is an effect of kids doing too much homework for too long, students have to complete all of their homework in just a limited amount of time, and less time for family and extracurricular activities and family and friends is created because of homework. If homework continues to increase through the years, students will go through a midlife crisis! They will not be able to handle all of the pressure and who knows what the students will do with all of this homework on their backs. Remember back to Michael. He was stressed out from all of the homework he had received from school, though, he went to school excited.
My vision of America is that the school system would change, things would be more expensive, and the people in poverty will decrease. In the future, America will probably change the academic system. My vision is that they will have made the school days shorter and less homework. Kids go to school 7 hours a day, some kids even have sports practice after school which leaves no time for them to go home and do homework, chores, and have family time. This affects their grades because when they get home they are busy with all their homework and chores, so they probably don’t do their homework.
Instead of getting 8 to 9 hours of sleep which is recommended, children end up getting 5 to 6 hours of sleep which in itself contributes to increase in stress. Another research indicates that students miss out on developing important life skills and their social life suffers as they don’t find time to pursue hobbies they enjoy, for outdoor activities or to even meet friends or family.” (Does Homework Cause Stress in Children?). Stress is terrible, too much homework causes stress, and less homework equals very less stress. Stress is no good because the only way to stop it is to do to the source of it, aka the palls of HOMEWORK that teachers FORCED upon STUDENTS, NEEDS TO
For many students, homework is a chore--mandatory, useless, painful. In addition to already-long school days, many more hours are spent by students at home, working on numerous, often unimportant, assignments. Students, already overworked, are given further stress; stress that leads to severe physical and mental consequences. Due to its length, inaccurate representation of student knowledge, insignificant impact on academics, elimination of free time, and damage on the physical and mental health of students, homework does not benefit students. Although common knowledge states that homework has a significant impact on academics, this impact has rarely been proven.
We Should Start School Later It is 6:00 am, most high school students are either up or waking up and getting ready for school, knowing that they have a bus to catch at 6:40. The kids cannot stay attentive and cannot focus because they were up late studying for that important test and now they are going to have problems focusing and concentrating during school that day. Teens need more sleep. The kids today are not getting enough sleep due to either having to do homework assigned by the teachers or by having to study for tests the next day. “Insufficient sleep affects concentration, mood, and learning.
First, they'll get more time to sleep in so they won't have to be falling asleep during class. Secondly, they'll get more time to do homework. Teachers give us homework to do and a lot of kids don't have enough time to do it, so they lose sleep because they're staying up late to make sure they finish their assignments. They don't want to lose points for not getting it done and they also don't want to get behind, so they stay up late to make sure it gets done. If students don’t get it done then they’ll be falling behind and they’ll feel like they’re whole life is now falling behind with them.
The alteration of the school schedule would also decrease productivity in students of all ages. It is exceedingly difficult for teenagers to focus for eight hours at a time, let alone ten. Dr. Iroise Dumontheil, author of research regarding the development of students, declared that it was not due to lack of motivation that students have trouble focusing in school. She stated, “it’s not the fault of teenagers that they can’t concentrate… Adolescents simply don’t have the same mental capacities as an adult” (A. Hill 2010). Accordingly, by asking students to remain in classes for an extra two hours a day, school systems are requesting more devotion from teenagers who cannot focus for lengthy periods of time due to their developing brains.
Ph.D. But on the other hand, homework can decrease socialization time, create fights between parents, and cause stress.13 According to Occupy Therapy, homework decreasing socialization time is bad, because when a child is developing, it is just as important for them to have the time they need to socialize and work on those necessary skills. If the child is forced to go straight home and finish piles of homework, it disagrees with the skills of development as a teenager.14 Homework can create fights between parents because teachers were assigning homework forces a person to take an added disciplinary responsibility. The child should have the decision to come home and decide that they would rather watch television or play with friends than do their homework, it is up to the parent to lay down and expect the child to finish the homework.According to the Occupy Therapy, homework can cause stress because, a Stanford researcher found that students in high-achieving communities who spend too much time on homework experience more stress, physical health problems, a lack of balance and even alienation from society.15 In Conclusion, Homework is helpful because it increases mental abilities in classrooms, but on the other hand, children don 't get enough socialization time. The Pros of students doing homework are bringing Teachers and Students to work together, Teaches Students how to be responsible, and brings families closer together with each other. However, homework can decrease
The alternative is, you fail your classes. Imagine you aren’t doing so well in school because of constantly being loaded down with tons of homework. You are just praying to God that you will pass the 8th grade. Homework should be eliminated and become an unnecessary thing of the past. Some people may say that homework is great practice, but when is it too much to handle?
Rules are made to be broken, if the rules are too strict. Middle school students that do not have vehicles, should not have to be at school as early as older students. Some students are very tired when they wake up in the mornings. If students do not get enough sleep, that can cause their grades to drop. Many students need that extra hour of sleep instead of waking up and going to school.
For low income families they might not be able to pay the bills if their child doesn 't work with school, work, and homework it is hard to be able to get the recommended amount of sleep and do everything else that busy high school students have to face. In an article on the website parentingteens.about.com it states "Delaying the start time of high schools within a district could pose problems with bus schedules, after school activities, and sporting events. Most districts already have staggered start times for the schools and they report that delaying the high school start time would have a domino effect on all the schools that could
