Power is a dangerous thing to have, no matter who you are or what intentions you have with it. William Shakespeare's book, Macbeth shows the tragic effects power can have and who easily it can corrupt your brain. Macbeth became king not exactly knowing what he was getting himself into, but eventually he realized being king had given him a lot of power so he did unspeakable things to keep that power and his crown. In Macbeth’s case fate brought onto him what he brought onto others in a shakespearean tragedy. Macbeth was so honored he could be king, he did anything he could to keep the power, including murdering, lying, and losing respect for others. Karma is a very important part in this book, it happens often from beginning to end and can be either bad or good. Macbeth is the most tragic character because he wants power, he feel’s guilty, and he loses his wife. Macbeth is power hungry. Macbeth will do anything he can so he can keep his …show more content…
His wife committed suicide, which made him lose hope. Macbeth did not see the point in life after everyone left and lost hope with everything. Macbeth said, “Out, out, brief candle!/ Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player/ That struts and frets his hour upon the stage/ And then is heard no more. It is a tale/ Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,/ Signifying nothing.”(V.V. 25-30). Power may seem like fun at first, but it destroys your life if you are not careful. Since Macbeth killed so many people he got no respect from others and lost everyone he had except for his wife. His wife wanted Macbeth to stop killing people, but because he would not she could not take it anymore she took her life. After his wife died, he realized he had no one and lost hope. Macbeth did not really care his wife died, he had no emotions when he found out she died. Macbeth wanted his power so bad he did not realize what it was doing to the people around him until it was too
Macbeth is no longer an honest, innocent husband, as he was in the beginning. Macbeth has completed his transition from an honest and caring leader, into a cold, heartless individual, which is shown when he voices: “She should have died hereafter / There would have been a time for such a word.” (V.v.17-18) Macbeth is informed about his wife’s suicide, and shows absolutely no remorse, which shows how heartless he has become.
It is human nature to want power, to be at the top of the pyramid, to be king/queen, but that comes at a price as shown in Macbeth. In the play, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth will do anything to have absolute power and nothing stands in their way. From killing to going completely mad, they will become the next king and queen at all costs. The ambition and the want for power is so high that they kill many, they do whatever they can to be one step closer, and they go completely insane, all because they want that absolute power.
One thing I have learnt from the text ‘Macbeth’ written by William Shakespeare is that Macbeth fought hard to become King, a king that he thought would be much different. However, once Macbeth gained the reigns of King he began killing innocent people, disobeying the natural order and doing whatever he pleases. The actions of Macbeth the statement I have chosen, “why do people abuse power?”. I will investigate this statement further by answering the following three questions: Who has abused power in the past?
Using a variety of literary techniques, Shakespeare relays Macbeth’s apparent lack of grief for his wife, which provides insight into his paranoia of death and loss of power, as well as his vanity. Forgetting the death of the Queen, Macbeth chooses to focus on the insignificance of life. It is only in the two first lines that Macbeth speaks to the death of Lady Macbeth specifically: “She should have dies hereafter / There would have been a time for such a word” (5.5.20-21). Macbeth only briefly addresses his wife’s despise because he would rather focus on the depleting worth of life.
Shakespeare engineered a most impressionable character in Macbeth who easily succumbs to the extensive magnitude of opposing constraints. This character is Macbeth, who is the protagonist in the play and husband to a conniving wife, who in the end is the sole cause for Macbeth 's undoing. Conflicting forces in the play compel internal conflicts within Macbeth to thrive on his contentment and sanity as he his torn asunder between devotion, aspiration, morality and his very own being. He has developed a great sense of loyalty from being a brave soldier; however, his ambition soon challenges this allegiance. As his sincerity begins to deteriorate, his own sanity starts to disintegrate until the point where he cannot differentiate between reality
Everyone, at one point in their lives has wanted power more than anything. Those who do get it have to make the decision whether they want to use it for good or evil. Power can turn a person into something they never dreamed they would become because it starts to take over their lives and people do not know what to do with so much power. There are many examples of power in the play Macbeth and every person that got it used it in very different ways. This caused many changes in people from turning from good to evil or evil to good.
He realizes that at the end of everything that he has done to obtain the throne and to keep it, means nothing because he is going to die, as he has made to many enemies and he has no heir. Children will also play a part in “Play it as it Lays” when Maria, who’s inability to raise one child, and abortion of the second will drive her further down an already nihilistic path that results in her own psychiatric commitment. So in the end for Macbeth it was all pointless. He goes on to say that life has no meaning, that it is just an inconsequential story full of random events that have no purpose, but the moment that an event is occurring it becomes the most important thing that there is in
He realizes he has “fallen from grace”, the world would be against him since he had destroyed the Elizabethan order. He does not see any meaning in life and therefore detaching himself from his emotions to turn himself into a vicious murderer. Macbeth’s despair over the loss of meaning in his life is reinforced in his Act 5 Scene 5 soliloquy, where he says life “is a tale/ Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury/ Signifying nothing” (Act 5 Scene 5 lines 25-27). Macbeth comes to a point of realization that all his efforts to gain the throne are like the “sound and fury” of the tale, just acts crafted for the sake of the show without any actual outcome in the end. In exchange for kingship, he loses his “milk of human kindness” and his wife.
William Shakespeare, playwright of Macbeth, shows the importance that power and corruption can hold on a person’s humanity. In order to prove the true effect of personal gains, he uses the main character, Macbeth, to show how evil people are willing to become. Personal power has the ability to be essential to greatness, but at the same time is able to destroy a person’s true nature. Believe it or not, Macbeth once was a man of honor. At the beginning of the play, Macbeth was loyal to King Duncan, a strong military leader, and a respected husband.
In the play Macbeth by Shakespeare, the main character Macbeth believes he will be king. The power he thinks he will have causes him to kill the people who stand in his way Of fulfilling his destiny. The Spiderman quote “With power comes great responsibility,” relates to the theme of Shakespeare's play Macbeth. Macbeth and the actor Lindsay Lohan, share the trait that people with power often abuse it, corruption is frequently the result of responsibility to great for one person.
Macbeth was working toward being the king of Scotland in the beginning after meeting the three wired sisters. And being told that he was king to be, so it inspired him to do anything that he had to to become king. It did not matter the circumstances he would do it. Even if that meant killing his best friend. He down was cause by him killing Macduff’s family.
Shakespeare’s intent was to dramatize the effect the thirst for power for the sake of it has on a man. The representation of power in Macbeth is effectively developed through the impact my supernatural power has on Macbeth in comparison to Banquo. Similarly, Macbeth’s insecure personality and character are due to my significant control over his thoughts and mentality and the deep seated guilt and haunted conscience portrayed by Lady Macbeth’s soliloquy in Act 5 Scene 1 is a representation of my lasting influence over her. Therefore, through the lasting effect I have had on both Macbeth’s and Lady Macbeth’s physical actions and mental thoughts, it is evident I have helped represent the theme of power. Fair is foul, and foul is
Yet he still tired and failed it was due to his failure to accept fate he ultimately failed at the end. Conclusion, the reasons why Macbeth fails he doesn’t understand his self-worth which led his wife to take advantage of him and influenced him to do actions unspeakable. The wicked witches and apparitions meddling with his fate by revealing his fate knowing about actions toward it. Then fighting destiny was his major fail because it was his failure to accept fate. this concludes why Macbeth
As humans, the desire to want control or influence is natural. However, some people may go to greater extremes than others to obtain this power. For instance, in the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Macbeth was characterized as a good man, well renowned for winning a battle. His wife, on the contrary, Lady Macbeth, has a strong urge to obtain power and she is willing to do anything to acquire it. She implemented the thought of destroying everyone who stood in the way along the path to reach royalty in Macbeth’s mind by making him feel like he as though he is less of a man if he decided not to.
In Macbeth’s case, he got extremely selfish and avid when he was named Thane of Cawdor, and remembered the prophecy of becoming king. He went on to deceive his way to the top, and killed anyone who stood in his way. Once crowned king, he didn’t misapply his power, per say, but it definitely went to his head. This resulted in culpability, and negative consequences of many sorts (ie: his wife dying, everyone
