The US went through revolutionary advancements in transportation from 1800 to 1840. The transportation improvements had substantial effects on the economy and also individual development. People could now buy goods that were made in places faraway because access was easier to towns and cities and people’s experiences grew as they were able to be more mobile (309). Horses and wagons were used prior to the revolution of transportation in America. In the late 18th century, while Americans were slowly moving west, transportation was important and at the time very risky. Westward expansion was not only difficult because of the use of horses and wagons and the demands that were needed to maintain them, but because of the duration of time that it took to travel across the land. The Transportation Revolution of the 19th century didn’t have an impact on society because Americans already had other forms of transportation. However it put an end dramatically to the isolation of western lands and encouraged the growth of commercial economy.
The mass transit significantly impacted the lives of Americans. The mass transit was a transportation system designed to move large numbers of people along fixed routes. Street cars were introduced in San Francisco in 1873 and electric subways in Boston in 1897. By the early 20th century, mass transit networks in many urban areas linked city neighborhoods to one another and to outlying communities. The mass transit was in the United States.
Almost every person in society uses a vehicle of some sort to commute from one place to another. According to a report from Ward's Auto released in 2010, the global number of cars exceeded 1 billion. With that being said, the people behind the wheel of these vast automobiles vary tremendously. Although there are numerous different characteristics of drivers, they all fall into one of three groups: Typical Commuters, Slowpokes, and Speed Demons.
Around the world, millions of commuters, tourists and students rely on public transit service to aid them in their daily commute. Among all the available services, LRT (light rail transit) stand out as it deliver fast, frequent and reliable services and provide a comfortable and safe journey for individuals. Thus, the proposal of expanding the LRT infrastructure within Elkhead seems to provide the best solution for the city’s current transportation problems. Implementation will not only solve the city’s congestions and unsustainable transportation system, but also enhance Elkhead’s image in the international market as a city ready to implement 21st century solutions to problems that affect the environment, economy and the society as a whole.
