Background of the Study
Throughout the world, the products which are extensively used are iron and steel products. These are because iron is one of the strongest and cheapest metals, because of its strength and cheapness it is commonly used in manufacturing tools, mechanical equipment and also building parts. Because of this iron and steel has been a great prominence in the industry thus prevention of rust and removing of rust is the basis of the technological advancement we have today. Some of these advancements that inhibit rust formation are the application of coating and paint, galvanization, rust resistant alloys, bluing and even cathodic protection. Rust has been a part of our lives ever since, and eventually iron materials will corrode

Commercial rust removers are sold in the market today, and there are various methods to remove rust by using certain ingredients and tools to remove it. Commonly called rust removers or converters these are primers engineered to be applied directly on the surface to convert residual rust on steel surfaces to harmless and adherent chemical compounds (corrosion-doctors, n.d.). The ingredient that produces the rust converters mechanism is tannin, which reacts with iron oxide turning it to iron tannate. Its main constituent is phosphoric acid (corrosion-doctors, n.d.). These rust removers remove rust, but anti-rust products can cause acid burns, skin and eyes irritation when it comes in contact and poisoning when a person accidentally swallows or inhales anti-rust products especially if used in a secluded area, such as the workshop in the engine room. Rust must be removed immediately and safely without sacrificing a lot of effort or resources. For this reason, elimination of rust is needed, in the most available, most immediate and in the most cost-effective way. Therefore the study must be conducted to find the best method of removing rust which is also in the comparison with the commercial rust removers being sold at the market today. In turn, the best method to remove rust can be accomplished in a way without sacrificing additional effort and
In the book, Guns Germs and Steel, Jared Diamond attempts to answer questions of conquest, such as why Eurasia conquered the Americas, and not the other way around. Diamond is a biologist by trade, and both impressed and disappointed the academic world with his new historian side. He believes the answer to western dominance lies in geography and the spread of guns, germs and steel. His theories had led him to be heavily critiqued by historians everywhere, including environmental historian J.R McNeil and Professor of Anthropology and Geography James Blaut. While Diamond provides solid ideas relating to the conquest of the New World, he often uses his scientistic background loosely with unclear supports forgetting other historical factors that

This process forms a zinc coating producing a corrosion resistant. However, A corrosion resistant is a multi-layered coating of zinc –iron alloy and zinc metal. During the galvanization process a metallurgical reaction occurs. A metallurgical reaction is a diffusion process so the coating forms perpendicular to all surfaces.
(Wasatch) Back in the eighteen hundreds and nineteen hundreds, america grew into a world economic power because of the industry. It is extremely difficult to imagine a world without steel. It has a huge impact on life life today and how people travel, but that's not the only thing. (Wasatch) Transportation, tools, and weapons have used iron which has been around for a very long time. The process in which people use high pressure air and heat to remove impurities is called Bessemer process discovered by Henry Bessemer.
Due to this time of advancement in history, the Industrial Revolution helped improve the efficiency of water power, increasing the use of steam power, and soon led to the development of machine tools. In several outstanding ways, this era of history had a major impact on our everyday lives. This era also
Have you ever wonder how does a crime scene investigator, known as a CSI, discover blood spatter on different fabrics, which is not visible to the human eye? The key is bluestar. According to the article “Influence of Bluestar Reagent on Blood Spatter Stain of Different Fabrics” by Arnon Grafit, bluestar is a “luminol-based reagent that is applied by spraying on surface.” Not only that, but “it helps obtain DNA and to analyze spatters patterns. By analyzing the article the reader is able to understand how bluestar works through the rhetorical techniques used.
To purify metal you have to melt the ore in a crucible, or a container that can resist great heat. A crucible, such as a steel container, clay, and some ceramics can withstand great heat. Crucifixion, the SAT’s and Mr.Maloney's class are all examples of a crucible. Where everyone who enters or gets chosen is severely tested.
Luke Wehby 1 No man will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself or get all the credit for doing it. -Andrew Carnegie. When you look at Andrew Carnegie’ past he wasn’t the best boss. Although he was a very very successful man, he treated his workers very poorly.
Chapter 7: After founding out that they only have less than 25% of the soldiers left in their group, they had to be reorganized and Paul states that the Second Company would need to have 100 more people in their group. Himmelstoss comes back to the group of soldiers and Paul explains that Himmelstoss wants to get along with the rest of the soldiers better, and Himmelstoss does this by giving the rest of the soldiers more food. However, Tjaden stills feel like Himmelstoss is hiding something and suspects Himmelstoss of faking his feelings with the other soldiers. Himmelstoss proves to Tjaden that he is not faking his feelings by becoming the new chef by giving the soldiers a few pounds of sugar, and a half of pound of butter for Tjaden.
Copper, magnesium, iron, and zinc were all tested in the same five solution compounds; which included hydrochloric acid, sulfate, magnesium chloride, iron chloride, and zinc chloride. Observations of chemical changes within the reaction were recorded to describe the results of the reaction and each metal's reactivity. An example of a single replacement reaction is the Statue of Liberty, which has copper on the outside and iron as an inner support. As time went by, the copper started to react with air and form a verdigris coat, or a bright bluish-green patina. Meanwhile, a single replacement reaction between iron and verdigris takes place so that Verdigris on the outside is replaced back to copper but the iron support is oxidized and rusted.
Many agents such as diethanolamine (DEA) and triethanolamine (TEA) contain carcinogens that can penetrate the skin. Also, 1, 4-dioxane (found in Tide detergent), ethoxylaated alcohols, butyl cellosolve (ethylene glycol monobutyl ether), (found in Tide detergent) which can be neurotoxic (causing brain and nervous system damage) are also in some cleaners. The ingredient alkyl phenol ethoxylates (APEs) and p-nonylphenol mimics the hormone estrogen and in test tubes caused estrogen-sensitive breast cancer cells to multiply (The Green Guide). Many products do not list their ingredients, but one indicator of toxic ingredients would be the warning, Danger, Warning or Caution. Melaleuca, all natural products, do not have Dangers or Cautious warning labels because the ingredients are all natural.
A stir bar was also added to the solution. The glass stirring rod from previous steps was used to remove pieces of Cu that formed on the Al wire, so that more Al surface would be exposed. A steam bath was prepared with 50 mL of deionized water, the glass rod was used to remove as much copper from the aluminum wire as possible, and the Al wire was then disposed of in the solid waste container. The mass of an evaporating dish was recorded, and the Cu was transferred on to the evaporating dish. Water was removed from the dish, and the Cu was then washed thrice with 5 mL deionized water, and decanted between washings.
In today’s world, there are many people creating new chemical substances that has negative effect to our world. Rachel Carson, in her article "The Obligation to Endure" argues that the pesticides and other chemicals we use are harmful to more than just the environment. I agree with Carson in her article, in that we should reduce most of the harmful chemical use and instead use technological inventions. Carson is a person who seems very passionate about the environment and is very concerned of its inhabitants. It is hard to believe that intelligent human beings would use bad chemicals substances that would affect the environment and themselves negatively.
Once metallurgists began to work with iron an important discovery was made:
