According to Stedman’s dictionary (2006), “Sleep deprivation is a sufficient lack of restorative sleep over a cumulative period so as to cause physical or psychiatric symptoms and affect routine performance of tasks”. Research shows that sleep deprivation is most common among adolescents as they dealt with making choices about managing their time. Teenagers commonly have delayed sleep phase syndrome approximately 7 to 16% and this syndrome manifests inability to sleep at the desired time.
This concern possibly lead to serious effects such as low academic performance and the lack to cope up with heavy requirements in college life (Ghamdi, 2013).
This paper aims to know the effects of sleep deprivation in the academic performance of the nursing students by using a pilot study using 10 percent of the Level 3 Nursing students of Xavier University.

Sleep deprivation is a general term to describe a state caused by inadequate quantity or quality of sleep, including voluntary or involuntary sleeplessness and circadian rhythm sleep disorders.
Sleep is as important to the human body as food and water, but many of us don’t get enough sleep. Insufficient sleep, inadequate quality of sleep or disruptions to the sleep-wake cycle (such as those that occur with shift work or travelling to a different time zone) have consequences for how we function in the daytime, causing sleepiness and fatigue.
