Do social networking sites harm students at schools? It’s an important question to be answered. Social media at schools is a double edged weapon; it depends on the way you look at it and the way you use it. You can use it in your research and at the same time you can misuse it by playing online games or watching unsuitable videos, for example. Some people look at it as an advantage as it connects the parents and the students with teachers, and increases student collaboration. But on the other hand some other people look at the disadvantages as it might increase the violence between kids, or it might create isolation. What are social networking sites? The author “Rob James” in his article “Does Social Media Create Social Isolation or Unity?” said that “Perhaps the strongest criticism that can be made of social media networks is that they deprive us of human interaction, and create virtual substitutes that still maintain emotional distance.” (1). some students are great in participating in discussions through social networks, while if you ask them to have the same discussion in class you will find some of them not participating. Social media creates a technological world that you enter from your screen. As soon as you look at that screen you forget about everything else, you start to live in that imaginary world which doesn’t exist in real life, most of the people are fake on social networks. You cannot touch a person’s soul through internet, however at the same time you cannot get rid of it, you spend most of your time on it, and it steals your life. That’s why it creates isolation. So schools need to get rid of these social networks as they create distance between people. Yet it helps you to connect with people that you cannot connect easily but it cuts most of the real relationships with family and
