In the newspaper article, “No Lunch Left Behind,” by Alice Waters and Katrina Heron, the authors inform the audience, “But food distributed by the National School Lunch Program contains some of the same ingredients found in fast food and the resulting meals routinely fail to meet basic nutritional standards. Yet this is how the government continues to ‘help’ feed millions of American schoolchildren, a great many of them from low-income households”(4). Waters and Heron argue school programs provide unhealthy food on a daily basis, which accustom the students to not having a choice, yet to eat it and not starve. Students may not realize that the food being served is technically as bad as going to a junk food restaurant. The fast food industry is constantly improving everything to get people to come back and order the “new,” that will benefit them in many ways.
They want students to eat healthy but at the same time eat what they like. when students go off campus researchers say they gain more weight then when they eat the food they like at school, healthy or not. If it’s not the healthiest food in the world then the lunches service can put less on the kids plate. Kids will eat more at school if the school sells what the kids like. FInally the school noticed it and finally started selly stir-fry stations.
Today life is on the fast track. People are always on the go and don’t have time to properly take care of themselves or their families. For most Americans, fast food and junk food are ready to grab for a snack or a quick dinner. They don’t slow down to think about how the foods they are eating effect their long term health. Fewer and fewer families take the time to prepare a nutritious meal and are passing down bad habits to their children.
The majority of people might only eat one meal that contains the nutritional foods because they are on the go or just simply do not care. There are three major reasons as to why people are lacking in nutrition: nutrition is not taught in school, marketing persuades public opinion about food, and
Parents are typically held responsible for providing their growing children with the proper amount of sleep, safety, and education. This should also stand for providing proper nutrition. A young child isn’t going to know anything about the nutritional value of a food. I believe the parents should take the initiative to research and find information on what foods will benefit their child the most, rather than finding something convenient. These are the years when eating behaviors and patterns are developing.
It is valuable because it keeps kids healthy and fit. My next reason is that it allows kids to learn to face competition, and teaches them to work as a team. The last reason is that it raises self-esteem level, improves self-confidence, and helps kids deal with pressure. If kids join competitive sports it would create a much more developed society. It will lead to more developed, hardworking individuals.
I think school lunches are horrible, and lunch ladies should be replaced with good cooks, and should give us kids more food. Many kids are still hungry after lunch because they give us very small portions of food. All the lunch ladies do is put food in the oven or microwave, the school district should have real cooks making our food so it tastes good. Kids will not be starving after lunch if the district gives us more food. More kids will buy the school lunch instead of bringing cold lunches, if the school had good cooks, and made good food.
Also, if school starts later you will be able to have a proper and healthy breakfast. It is important for students’ because with there growing bodies and developing brains they need regular refueling often, from food. When kids skip breakfast, they don’t get what they need to be at their best in school and at home. If you’re short on time you can just throw some fruit in a blender and make a delicious and nutritious smoothie.
The prices of food are ridiculous. The prices are not reasonable for the amount of food that you receive. Minimum wage jobs do not pay enough so a parent can do everything that they need to do. You will make enough money to pay for priority bills and whatever is left is what you will get. “Talk of parents who go hungry themselves so their children can eat , who put off utility and phone bills so they can buy food.”
I don’t think children can really discipline themselves with their food
They can tell their younger siblings about how they or someone they know messed up and ate too much junk food without exercising. There are also other people like teachers and other family members to teach kids about obesity and how to prevent it. Weintraub thinks it’s the parents fault for child obesity. Tell me honestly, who do you think is to blame for child obesity. Is it the parents?
It is an easy fix for a parent to just stop at a McDonalds or Chick-fil-et after a long day of work. Aside from poor eating and exercise habits, there are additional factors that contribute to the rise of childhood obesity. Agriculture and food prices play a role in the food selection process. With the price of nutritional food becoming fairly expensive, and non nutritional food being cheaper, often people will opt for the lower priced food. Income also has an impact on childhood obesity.
The government should not regulate what we eat. Many families in the US are low income paid families. This is a result, in parents feeding their children quick, easy, and unhealthy foods. People can only eat what they can afford. Although many children are not as likely to be obese due to high metabolism but can still get heart disease.
The food that is fed to students at lunch is extremely unhealthy. For example, the cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets, and pizzas that are fed to them everyday are full of grease. This is because the food is a very low quality brand and grade when it is purchased. The school does not purchase very many healthy choices anyway.
The name of our article is called school lunches. Kids have a lot of control on what they eat for lunch. What I mean by this is that a kid can choose to eat a salad, or they can choose to eat 2 Snicker bars. But when making your choices, it 's important for it to be healthy. Eating a group of healthy nutritious foods helps you grow like you should, gives you natural energy, and helps you from getting sick.
