Not feeling, emotion, any feeling at all,is a very terrible feeling it's really the only feeling you could feel. Jonas states his feelings about not telling feelings ,“Sometimes I wish they'd ask for my wisdom more often-there are so many things I could tell them; things I wish they would change. But they don't want change. Life here is so orderly, so predictable-so painless. It's what they've chosen.”(Noyce).
Throughout The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby is a self subservient character whose inner inhibitions, pleasure seeking lifestyle, and hubris prevent him from caring about how he affects other people. The only people to whom he ever gives the time of day are those who benefit him. Gatsby’s actions throughout the book are exemplary of these traits. The scope of Gatsby’s selfishness goes all the way to his daily life and the people he surrounds himself with. In his life he never really cared about anyone only what they could do for him.
Bartleby slowly lost even the ambition to do his job. Moreover, Bartleby’s repeated response of “preferring not too” shows no ill will but is simply a refusal. Having no interest in money or leaving, he breaks the unspoken hierarchal structure in the workplace and creates his own option. This ideology disarms the narrator, as the majority of people who work see it as two choices: do it and get paid or go somewhere else. Therefore, when Bartleby first refused to do his job the narrator did not fire Bartleby.
I don’t understand why people just don’t take the extra few minutes before getting on the road to get everything situated before heading out. When I moved from Los Angeles to a smaller city. People drive a lot slower in the small town, but I also noticed more people drive while on their phones. No matter where you go or whether it’s a different city or another country,
People like to think that texting while driving is not really a big deal, only because as a thought it seems so little, but it actually can have a big impact if you do it at the wrong time. We think so little, but one must know that thinking so vague wont get you far in life. With this law enforced, people will think twice about texting while driving, and hopefully they choose the correct option. Allowing people to drive while being able to use their own handheld cellphones would not be a positive change. This would have a negative impact on many lives and the economy.
Do we really love what we do? In the article “In the Name of Love,” Miya Tokumitsu covers the issue that doing what you love (DWYL) gives false hope to the working class. Tokumitsu reviews how those who are given jobs ultimately cannot truly love what they do because of the employers who make jobs possible. These same employers keep their employees overlooked. Providing the example of Steve Jobs, the creator of Apple, she says the people who work under Jobs break their backs at factories, yet he never credits the workers’ efforts to his overall success.
Sadly, most people tend to learn only from their own experience. Everyone hear and see how using a cell phone device while driving is dangerous, but most believe it couldn’t possibly happen to them. They hear how it is dangerous to the person driving, also dangerous to the people and cars surrounding that driver. In addition, there are many tragic stories out there like Winfrey mentioned. People hear about lives that has been lost and damages many accidents caused but they choose to ignore it.
Singers are auto tuned and their music is just bland. Music now is passionless and it seems that it’s only use is for money. That not was music should be for. Now don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against artist earning money from their jobs, but money shouldn’t be the main focus. What happened to artist actually caring about the quality music they put out?
A true Objectivist does not rely on other people. Therefore, Ellsworth Toohey is not an Objectivist, or an individual. He also fails at being an individual, because of the way he dealt with the problems of his life. Toohey was constantly ignored growing up, and he hated that, so he dealt with that by making sure he would never be ignored again, Toohey is just as much of a parasite as Peter, because “[He] create[‘s] nothing. [he] exist[‘s] entirely through the persons of others.”(Source 9, For the New Intellectual, 82) Toohey spends his entire life building up his collection of souls.
While allowing us to have so much information and so many updates at our fingertips; people will walk down the street with their face buried in their phones, oblivious to those walking around them. Bumping into someone on the street because you weren 't paying attention is no big deal, however bumping into someone while behind the wheel of a metal bullet that weighs a few thousand pounds because you weren 't paying attention is a very big deal. Texting a friend that you 're “LMAO” “LOL” “ROFL” at their previous message is not worth putting so many other lives at risk. No text is that important. Just one simple text message can alter your life tremendously.
