ABSTRACT:
The objective of this paper is to introduce the basic concept on which the hybrid electric vehicles work.Generally a hybrid electric vehicle has an internal combustion engine as well as an electric drivetrain.The concept of this system is to achieve better fuel economy in current generation than a normal vehicle,in the future we may depend upon only electric vehicles.In the current generation,since it is very difficult to afford an electric vehicle by an average consumer we go for hybrid vehicles.The main reason is to save the environment and fuel.
INTRODUCTION:
Automobiles are a source of considerable pollution to the environment like global warming,green house gas emissions etc…These led to the development of electric vehicles.But current battery technology doesn 't provide electric vehicles with a range acceptable to consumers.So we go for Hybrid Electric Vehicles.Basically they are not zero emission vehicles.

A complex transmission between motor and wheel is not needed as electric motors are efficient over wide speed range.
Some vehicle designs have separate electric motor for each wheel,this is a disadvantage where there will be more weight decreasing ride performance.Advantages of individual wheel motors include simplified traction control such as gearbox,transmission shafts,differential,all wheel drive, and allowing lower floors,which is useful for buses.Some 8x8 all-wheel drive military vehicles use individual wheel motors.
We also have fuel cell hybrid combination in which engine-generator combination is replaced by a fuel cell.
