This chapter describes the overview of electrical discharge machining process (EDM) and presents outline of the research problem.
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is widely used in manufacturing industries to make dies of complex cavities. In EDM, the material is removed primarily through the conversion of electrical energy into thermal energy through a series of discrete electrical sparks occurring between tool and work piece when both are immersed inside a dielectric medium and are separated by a small gap. The material is removed from the work piece by localized melting and even vaporization of material by high temperature spark. This causes many defects such as micro cracks, porosity, residual stress, in the white layer which are normally found on the machined surface. The reason for the defects is due to rapid high temperature melting and subsequent rapid cooling during machining process. Further, there

The insulating effect of the dielectric is important in avoiding electrolysis of the electrodes during the EDM process. Spark is initiated at the point of smallest inter-electrode gap by a high voltage, overcoming the dielectric breakdown strength of the small gap (Figure 1. 1). The erosion of metal takes place from both electrodes. The capacitor is recharged from the DC source through a resistor (Figure 1.2) after each discharge. The successive spark is transferred to the next narrowest gap. The cumulative effect of a succession of sparks spread over the entire work piece surface resulting to its erosion as such this machining process gives to a shape which is more or less similar to that of the
Experiment 7 In this experiment we configured several DC circuits consisting of an emf and a network of resistors. The circuits were composed of a power supply, two DMMs, a circuit board, an SPST switch, and an assortment of known resistors along with one unknown resistor. We measured the current and voltage of the entire circuit as well as the potential drops across each resistor to determine the parameters of the circuit including the resistance, voltage, and current for each component.
Therefore, the purpose of the lab, which was established as, to see the role that static electricity has on objects, when determining their charge and how they interact, is fulfilled in a wall mannered fashion. This process extends to other objects and real world applications, such as the controlling of electrical cable manufacturing and application in areas such as a television depot station, where static electricity must be managed and accounted for to avoid disruptions. As well as in micro surgery where small mechanical devices and robots must be carefully monitored in electron level in order to preserve machine functionality and efficiency. Therefore, the purpose of the lab is met and the hypotheses was supported, proving the quality and efficiency of the lab being

The United States of America is one of the most technologically and industrially advanced nations in the world, but that was not always the case. At the start of the Civil War in 1861 the United States was little more than a nation of farmers, but by the time the Spanish-American war began in 1898 the country was one of the most advanced nations in the world. This begs the question, what exactly enabled the United States to be able to industrialize so quickly and efficiently? The industrial growth in the United States of America during the late 1800’s was caused by entrepreneurs, an evolving population, and government assistance.

It converts chemical energy to electrical energy and the energy goes from the anode to the cathode. In this lab we had manipulate an exothermic zinc reaction to produce electricity.
The United States in the early 1930s saw nearly ninety percent of its urban population with access to electricity, which allowed them more efficient uses of machines like electric stoves, coffee makers, waffle irons, hot plates, electric roasters, and Waring Blenders. At that time, it was financially difficult for private companies to supply urban areas with electricity for numerous reasons, primarily because farmers were often too poor, too widespread, and too few to actually produce a real profit from. Still, rural life without electricity was hard. Farmers had to rely on dim kerosene lanterns just to do their work, the absence of electricity in opposition to cities aided in their isolation, and the general standard of living was dangerously
When the steel is quenched, the heat energy within the center of the part is pulled out quickly. The process of cooling rapidly cooling down the steel creates lots of tinny grain boundaries on the surface. The small grain boundaries are called martensite, as seen in figure 1 picture C. Martensite is a very hard microstructure due to having a dense amount of grain boundaries. The martensite crystals

Welding is a great job but not many people know what welding is or how it work. According to Thomas net welding is the process of joining metal together with heat welders can work on many kind of structures such as mobile homes, pipes, steel reinforcement and others. Because welding is a relatively easy manufacturing process and provide a great deal of strength (Thomas). To become a welder you need four skills the first skill you need is problem solving because welder must be exceptional problem solver who pay attention to details. They have to spot flaws in materials and designs troubleshoot broken areas and know to fix parts or equipment. The second skill math and science welders constantly use their knowledge of fundamental science and math
The main forms of voltammetry are polarography, stripping, and cyclic voltammetry. Polarography uses a dropping-mercury working electrode, which can be used with a staircase or square wave potential technique. Staircase voltammetry applies a potential, holds for a second at the potential and then increases to a higher potential, holding for a second. This is repeated for multiple potential giving a voltammogram that looks like a staircase. This allows an accurate measurement of the faradaic current, which is the current of the redox reaction of the analyte at the electrode, by minimizing the charging current, which is the flow of ions in solution towards the electrode.
I’m currently taking a welding class in High School and I have already achieved a couple of certs. This year i’m entering the TSA competition hoping to win district and maybe even be a state champion. The reasons why I would like to attend Tulsa Welding School is to further my education on welding and it’s also a small sized school located close to home. Tulsa Welding School is only specific for welding and pipefitting and doesn’t have other courses, so you can focus only on what you are really there for.
A pencil-like tool, usually with a diamond point, is used to draw an image on an untreated copper or zinc plate. Each movement of the tool makes a furrow with a soft metal ridge on either side called a burr, pushed up from the plate by the tool. The artist endeavors to retain the fragile burr throughout printing, because the burr holds the ink and results in a print with rich, velvety lines. The delicacy of the burr and the continuous pressure of the press seldom allow more than 20 to 30 impressions to be printed before the burr is lost. As in the aquatint process, the drypoint print is produced by inking the plate, wiping it clean, placing dampened paper over the plate, and putting the plate through the
Chemistry IA Background information: Introduction: Electrolysis it’s a chemical process that when you pass an electric current into a solution or a liquid that contains ions to separate substances back to their original form. The main components that are required for electrolysis to take a place are: Electrolyte: it’s a substance that when dissolved in water it ionize and then it will contain free moving ions and without these moving ions the process of electrolysis won’t take place. Direct current (DC): This current provides the energy needed to discharge the ions in the electrolyte Electrodes: it’s an object that conducts electricity and it’s used in electrolysis as a bridge between the solution and power supply. A great example
In the industry of automobiles, electric vehicles are a new emerging concept. Different automobile companies have modeled their cars with different specifications. We have those companies that have designed proactive vehicles that use only electricity. We have companies that design hybrid cars which run on both gas and electricity.
