Electricity Revealed In Benjamin Franklin's Declaration Of Independence

What is something that almost everyone in the world uses every single day? Electricity. We use electricity 24/7 whether we are using our phones, watching television, or using a light. This is something that we probably all take for granted for the most part. Where did electricity even come from? Who discovered it? How did they discover it? It was not Thomas Jefferson and it was not George Washington, so who was it?

On the 17th of January 1706, a man by the name of Benjamin Franklin was born. Franklin was a brilliant man. Some say he embodies what it means to be a good citizen. "Always mindful of the "greater good," Franklin helped establish or improve institutions such as circulating libraries, public hospitals, mutual insurance companies, volunteer fire departments, agricultural colleges, and intellectual societies"(pbs.org). Believe it or not, those are just a few of the things Franklin partook in.

One of Franklin's more popular accomplishments is the Declaration of Independence. In 1776, Benjamin Franklin met with John Adams and Thomas Jefferson to write one of the most important documents in American history; The Declaration of Independence. This document was pivotal in America gaining its independence from Great Britain. Not only did he help write the Declaration of Independence, but he also helped negotiate the Treaty of Paris,

While Franklin did indeed discover some unknown aspects of electricity, he did not actually invent electricity. Before his discovery, electricity was around and it was used, it just was not used in the same ways we use it today. Some would use electricity for their magic tricks to create special effects such as sparks. Many people believed that electricity was a strange force and that lightning was a sign of God's wrath.
