As established in the previous paper, globalization has a major impact on the individuals and society as a whole. It reshapes social structures and significantly alters the social experiences of the people. Social phenomena such as intersocietal as well as intrasocietal inequality and conflict are associated with the increased connectivity of the world. To facilitate their endeavors, sociologists utilize sociological theories that study society on the micro- and macro level.
What is normally suggested is that if a firm is producing, manufacturing or reselling goods that they usually export since it is the easiest and least risky method. The risk that occurs if this type of strategy is used is that the firm depends on the company that will be exporting to and their customers in order for their product to be known. Yet other strategies include a joint-venture, licensing and franchising, foreign direct investment, and strategic alliances which even though they have more risk than just exporting they are more likely to be used than full ownership. These strategies give the firm the opportunity to still have some control, at different levels, of how the product will be managed in the foreign country. An example of this is Kia Motors direct investment in Slovakia in 2004 or Volkswagen’s joint-venture with Skoda for a period of time in 1991.

Increasingly, businesses, consumers, and governments realize that their lives are affected not only by what goes on in their own town, state, or country but also by what is happening around the world. Consumers can walk into their local shops today and buy goods and services from all over the world. Local businesses must compete with these foreign products. However, many of these same businesses also have new opportunities to expand their markets by selling to a multitude of consumers in other countries. The advance of telecommunications is also rapidly reducing the cost of providing services internationally, while the Internet will assuredly change the nature of many products and services as it expands markets even further.
