Japan is an island Country in north eastern Asia, and between the North Pacific and the Sea of Japan. This country is make up by four islands: Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu and more than 4,000 small islands. We choose Japan as one of the Across the Universe festival, the reason is because Japan is one of the most distinctive cultures in Asia. Below are a few elements of the Japanese culture that we will incorporate into the Across the Universe festival.

Elements of Japan
Food has always been a major part of every culture, also Japan. Ask any Japanese about a recent trip within Japan and the conversation almost includes talk of the local food (Inside Japan). Japanese cuisine is based on combining the staple food which is steamed white rice with main dishes and side dishes. This may be accompanied by a clear of miso soup and pickles. Besides rice, seafood is also highly consumed in Japan since the country is surrounded by oceans. Seaweed, fish, clams, fish cakes are popular ingredients in Japanese cooking (Setsuko, 2014).
The Japanese cuisine offers a great variety of dishes and regional specialties. They are categorized into rice dishes, seafood dishes, noodle dishes and other dishes.
