In the Story To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom Robinson, an African American is blamed and killed for something that was not his fault and had nothing to do with. But in the report of Emmett Till he was killed for something that he did do. So there are a couple of things that i can Compare and contrast about Tom Robinson and Emmett till and why they both suffered the same “consequences” Tom Robinson was accused of the rape and beating of Mayella ewell even though it was obvious That Bob Ewell was the one who beat her, And Emmett Till was killed because he he “Harassed” a white woman that was married because he’s friends told him to do it. The death of the fourteen year old Emmett Till is one that will spark the civil rights movement and go down in history. What occurred on August 24, 1955, proved that he was not ready to go to the South. When Till was dared to ask out the lady behind the cash register, Carolyn Bryant, he “was heard saying, ‘Bye baby’ to the woman” (“August 28, 1955 : The Murder of Emmett Till). This showed that Till was not ready to go to the South and did not take his mother’s warning.
It is a magnificent thing that Emmett Till, at the age of 14 years old, could cause the civil rights movement. People such as Bayard Rustin and Harry Hay endured through simple things to obtain the education and power to stand up for what is right. This child has been able to accomplish these men's goals since his actions caused the civil rights movement to go nationwide. He was also able to inspire other citizens after him, such as Rosa Parks and Malcolm X, to do something about segregation in America. It is heartbreaking to know any young African-American can lose his life over talking to a white female.

We live in a wonderful society nowadays compared to what it was like, say 50 years ago. Blacks can walk down the street and get arrested merely for having a hood up! I mean it we are talking about the early 19th and 20th century, that's nothing compared to be being killed for just simply being black! Gladly we don't live in a society like Jesse Washington did; otherwise all blacks would constantly be strung up on poles and burned alive for crimes there was no proof they committed. Thank god we don't live in a society where lynching of blacks was a regular thing, and part of a white man's daily entertainment.
