Employee Empowerment is considered as the act of “enlarging employee jobs so that the added responsibility and authority are moved to the lowest level possible.” (Heizer, et al., 2014). In simple terms, it is a method of job enrichment whereby employees are given more responsibility, particularly in the areas of planning and decision making. This is done to encourage employees in becoming more invested in their jobs and taking action on a personal level to enhance growth in a work environment, delivering on improved performance (Heizer, et al., 2014). Employee empowerment is beneficial to operations, enabling employees to become further motivated, involved and feel as though they are making an impact for the betterment of their patients and …show more content…
Once this is understood, employees are more prepared to make assessments and decisions that are aimed at the smooth running of the hospital. (Bizcommunity, 2017)
A result of employee empowerment is the accountability that accompanies the freedom to make decisions. A performance management process that incorporates constant communication and performance reviews that are captured on a digital communication system assists in establishing a culture of accountability and better record keeping. Recognition and support by supervisors as a system of professional support can be critical to achieving this level of accountability (Munyewende, et al., 2014).
In terms of technology and digitisation within hospitals, the quality of output is improved through speed, efficiency and accessibility for daily operations and overall assessment of working
Introduction Hospital wait times have long been an issue amongst patients in emergency rooms as it’s unrealistic for every patient to receive assistance as soon as they arrive in the emergency department. Those with life-threatening injuries have priority while those without are still suffering and have no alternative but to wait for medical attention. In an age where technology has solved numerous everyday problems and businesses are continually evolving with new innovations, is it possible for hospitals to implement similar concepts to create an efficient organizational structure and increase employee productivity? This short paper explores alternative solutions to reducing wait times by reassigning hospital duties, implementing a new pay
Since many health information infrastructure systems are relatively new, there is still variability in the implementation stages that different organizations have achieved. Additionally, most systems will have more than one capability that provides value, so the relationship between the system’s functionality and the resulting impact to patient care must be analyzed in order to determine the value it provides (Einstein, Juzwishin, Kushniruk, & Nahm, 2011). Value of health information infrastructures can be assessed in many different ways, including whether the technology allows the availability of useful information, how that information is utilized by staff and patients, and its impact on health outcomes. For information to be of value and influence medical decision making, it must be comprehensive, accessible, useful, and valid (Fitterer, Mettler, Rohner, & Winter, 2011).
The HITECH Act was developed so encourage the dissemination of health information technology, which was believed to facilitate improved patient and decrease the cost of healthcare for patients. Yet, even though hospitals are receiving incentives and are adhering to requirements placed on them, nursing staff are struggling due to interruption in workflow and loss in productivity due to time spent learning to use an electronic health record. Nurses are also challenged with technical issues that arise, while providing patient care, which limits their access to patient information. Nevertheless, advantages due to exist to utilizing electronic health record, which include less medical errors, and an improvement in the overall health of populations.
The expansion of MEDITECH is vast as well as technology advancement. At Chilton Memorial Hospital the implementation of MEDITECH aided in quicker access to results and information that helped support better decision-making and decreased the amount of medication errors by using the system correctly. MEDITECH increase safety to both the patient and nurse. Errors in systems are inevitable but it is important that nurses use technology as and aid to their job and remember not to fully rely on technology. Fairmont General Hospital was able to reduce documentation time after setbacks with repetitive charting and system issues.
Technology in today 's Health Care The United States health Care system is in need of an overhaul. Electronic Health Records helps to maintain and ensure safe
Part of a human resource leader is communication, accessibility, and empowerment of one’s employees. I feel my skills in open communication, information sharing, decision fairness, outcome concern, and credibility help in numerous ways. Furthermore, being credible and concerned about outcomes, my employees believe in my leadership and know that I have their backs. With communication and information sharing my employees know that I am accessible to talk.
Equal pay is something women have fought over for a long time, but still haven’t got it. Just because women have only a little less experience as they have to take care of children doesn’t mean they shouldn’t get the same salary. Equal pay is favorable since it boosts the economy, makes the company look better, and helps everyone. Why would equal pay boost the economy, though? Foremost of all, women spend a sizable portion of their income, which leads to higher demand.
The healthcare industry generates a great amount of data every day, as a form of record keeping, patient care, compliance, and regulatory requirements. Just a decade ago, all this data was stored in the form of hard copy form, now it is rapidly transforming to digital data which is called EMR (Electronic Medical Record). The digitalization of the healthcare has not just reduced cost of care, but also improved quality of care due to the abundance data that organizations receive from the EMR to identify the flaws in their system. I work in the healthcare industry where improving quality of care is our primary goal. We use software called eCW , which is an integrated system.
Inputting information electronically can make health care less expensive and more efficient. It can also improve the quality of care towards patients by providing quick access to data and information. Quick and precise care can promote positive reviews and rapport for future patients. Medical records software now guaranteed to make labor at ease providing Doctors with a range of capability to capture and store data. This software depending on which
Ensuring excellent mental health nurse staffing levels on inpatient psychiatric units is vital, given the increasing severity of illness of mental health patients and the mounting evidence that nurse staffing levels influences outcomes. ('APNA Position Statement: Staffing Inpatient Psychiatric Units,' 2012) An investigation took place in Metro North Mental Health-Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital to obtain data to answer the title question. According to the National Alliance of Social Workers (NASW), social justice is one of the primary ethics which social workers must uphold. Empowerment is a social work theory rooted in social justice, with a main goal of reducing social inequalities through community building and redistribution of access to power. The basic premise of empowerment is "to change the environment, change yourself" (Van Wormer & Besthorn, pg. 212). However, in order to change one 's environment or self, there must be options available and opportunities for individuals to have control over their own decisions. Empowerment theory also aims to build community through citizen participation, collaboration and engagement among community members.

Employee Empowerment Employee empowerment involves the workforce being provided with a greater degree of flexibility and more freedom to make decisions relating to work. Individuals are allowed to take personal responsibility for improving the way they do their jobs and contribute to the achievement of organizational goals. The four dimensions of empowerment in accordance to Spreitzer’s (1995) study are defined as follows: i. Meaning: The value one places on the importance on a given job, based on the individual’s own standards and ideals (Thomas and Velthouse, 1990) ii. Competence: The ability or capability of the individual to perform tasks or responsibilities assigned.

) Abstract Since women have started to become involved in competitive work field, important differences between men and women have emerged. It is clear that men have the more prominent roles in the work environment. Noticeably, men have the majority in science, academia and high-ranking job positions. I believe that everyone, at least once, has asked the following question to herself/himself: ‘is it more advantageous to be a man or a woman in the workforce?’
