Introduction An issue which usually generates a great deal of attention from most of those involved in Human Resources Management is the issue of how to successfully motivate employee. Employee Motivation is widely considered a core element in running a successful business. In the organizational setting the word “Motivation” is used to describe the drive that impels an individual to work. A person derived by a ‘want’ to work can be said to be truly motivated. Both employees and employers are always keen on understanding as to what exactly would be a motivation. Subsequently the next higher level of need has to be generated in order to motivate the man. Maslow identified five levels in his need hierarchy. i) Physiological: These needs are basic to human life such as to include food, clothing, shelter, air, water and other necessities of life. These needs imply to the survival and maintenance of human life. They tremendously influence the human behaviour. These needs are necessity to be met first at least partly before any further higher level needs are to emerge. Once physiological needs are satisfied, they no longer remain to be a motivation the man. ii) Safety: After the physiological needs, the next needs felt by the man are called safety and security needs. These needs may be termed as desires as economic security and protection from any sort of physical dangers. Meeting these needs require more money prompting the individual to work more. Resulting in the suffering of the business of the employer. The key is to create an encouraging environment fro people to work and enjoy what they do. It would not be honest enough say that it is easy to do so. There are characteristics that every good work environment possesses. Following be the characteristics which a great workplace exhibits. 1. Unrestricted communication : Communication is the key to make sure everyone is on the same page is. If one does not communicate in a clear and concise manner, no one will ever know when they are doing a good or are having any difficulty in their job. Conversation with people and informing and suggesting them on how can they possibly be better, would lead to a betterment of both the parts. Effective communication results in the increase of overall productivity. 2. Work and personal life Balance: Who wants to work all day every day. It is equally important to take time to unwind and take care of other aspects of your life. They need flexibility in their work and their lives outside of work
