Energy resources can be considered as the base of socioeconomic development of all the countries in the world. Energy is used in all sectors weather it industrial or agriculture. Electricity is considered as a basis necessity in today’s world and it has no other substitute. At the time of separation from India Pakistan had a population of 32.5 million and it was the 13th most populated country in the world at that time. But now Pakistan is sixth most populous country in the world which has a population of 162 million. There has been a massive increase in power demand due to this increase in population and this demand of power is growing day by day. There is a lot corruption in WAPDA. Its employees are very corrupt and their recruitment is made on political liking or disliking. There is no concept of merit. Free units are given to the employees of WAPDA and sometimes they do not even have to pay the bills of electricity. Apart from this there are few cases like the rental power projects in which billions of corruption has been made by the politicians and bureaucrats. This corruption and lack of transparency in the projects is also a big cause of these energy crises in Pakistan. According to the survey conduct by the Transparency International in 2006, Pakistan’s energy production department is the second most corrupt institution of Pakistan and this corruption has increased hundred times in the last seven years.
