Importance of communication in Engineering.

Engineering discipline is a field that requires its individuals to be equipped with advanced scientific and technical knowledge. The main aim is to enable them to carry out their primary role which is the application of science and mathematics to come up with solutions in the form of designs that will solve present daily challenges faced by the masses. Therefore the craft of coming up with such ground breaking solutions and actually making them a success require thorough and effective communication skills. This essay will examine the importance of communication in general in the engineering field, the importance of technical communication and the effects of poor technical communication.
According to (Louw & du Plooy-Cilliers, 2016)“communication is a functional, dynamic, and transactional process where two or more individuals deliberately try to create and share meaning by sending and interpreting verbal and non-verbal messages.” Given the complex engineering field where engineers find themselves not only working with other engineering colleagues but also individuals from other fields, it becomes imperative for the engineers to have effective communication skills. In engineering organizations effective communication afford employees the chance to equally and effectively voice out their ideas and thoughts pertaining certain internal or external organizational issues.
