Since I am still in my Freshman year I think that such skills are going to be very helpful in the future. I think that I will be using what I learned from this course in many other courses including, Surveying lab, writing 204, and many other courses. This shows how significant this course
I selected WRTG 101 because it was a required class towards my undergraduate degree. This is a class that I should have taken earlier in my pursuit of my degree; it would have been extremely beneficial to me with my writing assignments for other classes. Being a student of WRTG 101 employs me to use my critical thinking skills in conjunction to my writing skills. Prior to taking this class, I thought that my writing skills were above average; however this class has provided instruction and feedback that I needed improvement in several areas. Each Monday, I would log onto UMUC.com to read the Course Content/Alerts to see what the status of my progress.
Part 1 If I were to have it my way, I would enroll in hybrid classes which give you the best of both worlds. With and 112, I did not learn as much as I would have if the class would have been regular lecture style. Honestly, this class reiterated the same concepts I had learned in high school and further confirmed my ability to adequately write at the college level.
Upon entering the course my expectations were surpassed, Dr. PHP was not an easy teacher but she was an effective teacher. Her lessons and explanations in class worked well for me especially in my writing. Giving us handouts dealing with grammatical errors like comma splices and giving us examples in class of how an outline should be written really helped out a lot. Another thing that
I thought about the things gls has helped me with and I came across many things. We did the writing process which I thought was helpful. We talked about the worst thing that happened in 2017 and had to write an essay about it. So not only did it prepare me for my future essays in english, it also helped me with my research skills in a way. I had to look back at the year and decide what was the worst thing that happened out of many options.
The way I was writing before and after has really upgraded. I would see my work before and after and now am really shocked to see how much I’ve changed. Starting from the very first days in the class doing pre-writing journals, then moving to bigger assignments like doing different essays like the Memoir and analyzing Rhetorical Analysis were a drastic change. Learning certain chapters and lessons my fellow classmates taught us really helped, for example learning
I believe that Intellectual Perseverance is the trait that I would say I still have an opportunity for improvement. As mentioned above, I want results and I want them now. This course i 've had to read and read some of our text to understand some of the theories that were presented. It really makes you think so at times it has been a challenging to slow down and refresh.
As an English student this semester, I have learned how to develop essays in an appropriate educated way in English 101. I have learned how to find and properly use different sources in my essays as well as improving on MLA format. This class has also improved my writing skills in my work place. I presently work as a secretary for a company, and my job consists of writing letters to people from time to time. The skills that I have learned has dramatically improved those letters, allowing them to appear more professional.
I found it fascinating when people gave their opinion and one person would get something completely different out of the reading then the other person. These discussions I loved, because when you hear other people's perspectives on complex issues it really helps you form your own opinion. Discussions were also like clarification for me because I might be missing the whole point of what we were supposed to get out of
GENERAL REFLECTION Throughout this course, I learned several things about the material covered in class and also about my strengths and weakness when writing. I have become a great writer who thinks critically and uses all the knowledge I have at hand. But even if I improved I know there are many things I could do to enhance my skills as a writer.
The reading strategies we discussed in class and in the courses content made me a better reader by showing me many different ways to read and write and understand it very well. It uses all these methods such as the KWL charts, writing a memo and reading the novel I selected helping me improve my skills greatly to become a better reader. Putting together the reading, writing oral communication and examining media all connected in helping me become a good reader and helped me to comprehend the understanding of making a personal connection to the world around you. That 's what help 's you in the future to make the the best choices possible so that later on when you make a mistake in reading you can look at the experience you had and learn how to properly correct yourself because at the end of the day they all deal with different skill set 's but all help you to become better in everything you
They have taught me that structuring your paper is the key element to good writing. Somehow, I have learned a great deal last semester, which was difficult but I will be able to put towards me up and coming writing intensive courses. The readings throughout those two classes have helped me to understand the dos and
The three assignments that I have selected from the research toolbox assignment are annotation practice, peer reviews/revision plans, and synthesis matrix. These three research tools have been very helpful to me throughout my last two major assignments, the literature review and research prospectus. The annotation practice was a great way to prepare me on how to cite my sources properly. It also helped me to practice on summarizing sources and putting the authors ideas into my own words.
The 214 English hybrid course has got me into thinking more about constructing a strong thesis and creating solid topic sentences. Being able to identify my thesis has also helped my writing have better organization that helps the overall flow of my essay. With blogging incorporated into our academic criteria it was certainly something different. Blogging geared me into reading more articles and analysis the authors use of rhetorical devices. After this course I have gone more on magazine websites to read current topics.
English 105 has been a pretty interesting class so far this semester. Recently all of the students were assigned the unexpectedly difficult task of creating a resource guide for incoming freshmen in their selected majors. Thinking about this project in my head, it seemed relatively easy but when it finally came time to create my rough draft, I realized it was more complex than I initially thought. There is so much I did not know coming into Howard and though it felt exciting to learn the area and meet the people, there were some misconceptions and unexplained information that did hurt my overall experience as a freshman. Trying to organize what information to share and decide what parts to include was a very difficult task for me.
