I believe that the purpose of major writing assignment number one was to improve our interview skills and solidify our understanding of genre as used in the context of our class. For this writing assignment I created a Weebly website that is meant to teach the class about the most important genre used in the field of computer science. To successfully do this I first gave a brief description of what computer science entails and that what it does not, I then followed up the description with a few questions and answers from my interview while also describing my professor that I interviewed. Finally, I began writing about my genre—developmental collaborative writing on a whiteboard—and gave its purpose followed by a few links. These links lead to the descriptions of my genre’s audience, rhetorical factors, structure, and style of writing; with all of the information presented on my website there should be a good enough description of developmental collaborative writing to help my fellow classmates understand what it is.
My experience in English 1010 was great. My writing skills were very poor at the beginning of the semester. I did not know how to write correct sentence structure. I had great difficulties making my sentences flow smoothly and clearly. I was not able to edit a paragraph for mistakes in grammar, punctuation, and spelling. I also had a problem in balancing the words in a pair, so that they have the same kind of structure, this will make a sentence clearly and easy to read. Parallel sentences that follow read more smoothly than the nonparallel ones. I have a great problem putting matching words and ideas into matching structures. Some of my sentences were fragments with incomplete phrases. English 1010 class helped to improve and change my level of writing.
I hope you had a productive day. I have never had to write a graded email to a teacher; there is a first time for everything in a junior honors class. I am writing this email to discuss my academic life at Beckman High School.

“It’s what we think we know that keeps us from learning” This quote from Claude Bernard describes my writing development this year. At the beginning of this schoolyear, I thought that I was going to go into this year and be able to breeze through this class because I could write a good essay last year and analyze stories, but I was wrong. Lit Comp Honors has been a brand-new experience for me. In previous years, I have never had to work hard for a good grade. Now I have to put in extra time every night to go over vocab and stories or else I would get a bad grade. This class has taught me how to work harder and how to study better and that’s not even the writing aspect of it yet. My writing has gotten better because of
As a senior at Ashley High School in New Hanover County, you have to complete a senior project. This project singlehandedly determines whether you graduate or not. It was second semester, my classmates and I were sitting in Mrs. Ventre 's class knowing exactly what was coming. We were scared, nervous, intimidated, and so much more. The way she helped me through this huge project has stuck with me to this day.
Looking back through my days of writing in high school there was a lot I did not understand about the writing process. My writing was much unstructured and overall very poor compared to what it is today after this class. I believe that I have always been a good writer I just have not had the tools and knowledge to create a well written and knowledgeable paper. This course has helped me to meet the learning outcomes of learning to conduct factual research, making original and unbiased papers, writing different genres of papers in a professional way, correctly implementing the academic writing process, learning proper grammar and mechanics, and implementing critical thinking skills into my drafts.
I truly enjoyed taking the English 1302 class with you, thanks for making this class easy and not stressful. During my High School year, I hated to take English because my grammar is bad, however, this class has allowed me to stress less over my grammar and focus more on my arguments. In addition, every discussion and journal have helped me learned how to think critically when analyzing poems and stories. Thanks for being an attentive professor.
Good writing means that you keep erasing what you wrote because, you don 't feel confident about it. It means you stress about it because, you cannot put the words together that you want. You cannot use the words we are used to writing like can 't and won 't. Good writing means it takes you through a roller coaster of emotions.
Throughout the year my english career had its ups and downs. I started as a young and naive student, never taking into consideration my syntax, and not even glancing at what my diction was like. Soon, I realized that all of these things were important and I went from getting average grades on essays to high A’s. I started noticing run on sentences, poor word choice, and way too much comma placement. My writing took a turn for the best, I had my fellow students help me improve, instead of them just outright editing my essays for me. This in turn helped me improve and made me the writer I am today.
I couldn 't come by your office hours on Thursday, so I thought I 'd just email you my questions. I 'm going to reintroduce myself that will lead to my questions. I am Alfredo Dela Cruz Jr. in your 4 pm, English-101 class. I have been out of school for five years, until last semester. I thought it 's never too late to start my education. I somehow placed in English-101 on my assessment test results. I guess it 's because my reading comprehension is okay, and I recognize grammatical errors. Multiple choice questions also doesn 't hurt. However, MJC doesn 't provide a writing test to their assessment. I wanted to take English-50 last semester to practice writing, but all of the classes were full. Instead, I took 15 units of other courses last semester, and managed to practice writing. Though, I did not expect non-English courses to be heavy in writing.
My experience at U of D has been difficult to say the least. I came from a public school that focused very little on English. So, when I entered U of D in my freshman year, the first thing that hit me was how difficult English was. I used to think that English was just about words and the only thing you could really do with it was become an english teacher. In fact, at the end of the year, that belief had been validated with a barely passing C-. I always believed English wasn't my strong-suit and now I had a very poor English1 grade to prove it. What I didn't realize at the time was that I had improved tremendously in my writing over the year. When I had an easier time in English2, I began to notice the improvement. It began with the first writing assignment of sophomore year. It
“Never neglect an opportunity for improvement,” I would go back and tell myself so if time traveling was one day made possible.
Life was too precious. Family and friends became my vital support networks. Since that summer I have spent nearly every day with my ninety-three year old grandma ; playing cards, giving each other a hard time, we even traveled to the east coast. Carting her around New York City and Boston in the pouring rain brought me joy I had not experienced in a while. I was content, with the life I was living. I realized that comparing me to others was futile and undermined my worth. I altered my beliefs about what validated me as a student and as a person. Each day became centered on learning, in and out of the classroom, and reaching out to people. I developed a connection to people in a way I had never experienced. From that point forward, I would embrace all my imperfections as well as my
Growing up in Starkville MS, hasn’t been easy but it has taught me some things. I was the second oldest our five children, the only boy. Needless to say life was hard and a struggle. We encounter many sleepless days and nights but we made it. I am, proud of the man that I have become.
