Today, English is used in many countries because it has the status of a global language and has spread to different parts of the world. However, at the same time, both native and non-native speakers of English have a problem because people who use English are increasing. Language needs to be not only used but also acknowledged by people who speak other languages. The power is also a necessary thing to gain a status of the global language. Greek and Latin spread in the world because Greek and Latin speaking countries had had military power. These two languages did not have simpler structure than English in the past. (Crystal, 181) Some people say that English has a status of a global language because its grammar is simple but Greek and Latin’s grammar is more complex and they had military power in past. Therefore, English succeeded in gaining a status of a global language by playing important role in the world. There is also another cause that English can play important role in the world. A common language is needed for an international institution as lingua franca and countries which have English as a native language as the significant role. (Crystal, 185) Since people started to trade, lingua franca, which is a common language used among people who have different native language, was created. Globalization of English not only increase English speakers but it also localizes English in a place where English is not used as a native language. For example, In Japan and the Philippines, people do not speak the same English as native speakers because they create a new English called Englog and Japlish which words are mixed with English and their own language’s words and phrases. they started to learn English to adapt globalization and this is a result of the globalization of English. However, native English speakers need to accept like this localization if they expect other than basic communication skills. In globalization of English, because people get an opportunity to work with foreign people, they need to exchange ideas to proceed their work. It is not globalization of English to talk to only native speakers. Therefore, they cannot accept a various type of English and they have a communicational problem
Introduction: “Our language is the reflection of ourselves. A language is an exact reflection of the character and growth of its speakers.” Those who access to the great potential of literature and language attain widespread liberation and selfhood. This reward allows people to formulate and trigger defiance from the conscious subjugation they have fallen subject to. Language also however, can be used as a tool of power itself whether it be by oppressive reigning powers or a moral code.
And without the spread of languages not everyone would be able to communicate with each
Abstract Language is a communication tool and system to a civilization and different from country to country. Every nation has their own historical, civilized, cultural, climatic characteristics, so every nation has their own language. However, different nations have similarities and differences in expressing their ideas. One common way of showing emotion and attitude is to use idioms. Idioms are used worldwide in order to express meaning more specifically.
Language is vital part of geography, and it is one of the first defining attributes of a nation and impacts greatly the culture. The author in the book The Power of Place, De Blij shares how many societies are working hard to preserve their languages, as if their livelihood depends on it. The author states that even though our world is “flattening” and many more people are speaking the same language this will not stop conflicts. I found this to be an interesting point, as one would think better communication would lead to more peace. This rolled right into his thoughts on the how major languages like Latin now have split into many different branches with the infusion of local culture.
As of today, the English language is considered, and widely accepted as the international language, so knowing how to use this language is on indispensable ability. Culture has shaped our world as we are living in a globalised world, and culture often influences language. When there are thousands of different cultures in one country the language is bound to be impacted. For example, some words from some ethnic groups have made their way into mainstem English usage, for example the words “Yallah and Habibi” words which were once used as slang are now found in the English
Language drives the world around us. It is the premise of communication and lack thereof. Whether it be latin, french, spanish, music, literature, or art, language, in any of its various forms, gives one the freedom to communicate with and understand others. Those who can effectively exercise multiple languages are highly sought after and those who can not are often misunderstood. In many ways the manipulation of language can make those who hear, read, or see it think a specific way.
With spread of language, the whole world couldn't be able to have much of different languages and cultures as there is today. Also America wouldn't be able to communicate with other countries if it weren't for different people with other languages coming into America. Today there is more learning about different countries and their history. The world is where it is today because of imperialism.
Having the same language as others is something that brings people together-- whether it is around the dinner table, in an office, or in a grocery store. Language helps to bring people together and is a curator for community building. And in the eyes of many, this community that stems from a language is true, as long as the language being spoken is one that they prefer. For a long while there has been a “hierarchy” of language, and English sits a top of the food chain. When English is glorified, it is seen as the key to success and continuously other languages have been pushed out and looked down upon-- resulting in closed off cultures for others.
La Spada (2010) debates that globalization can be a process, which opens minds to new ideas and experiences, and strengthens the communication among different cultures and brings them to a greater capacity of reciprocal understanding. La Spada is supported by other researches. Weinstein emphasises that the presence of a common language has a positive side to the strengthening of relations between people using different indegenous languages.. (3) Ginsburg ( 2002) claims that language, customs and culture may be protected by modern technologies. by providing an easy access to anyone who is interested in them.
Languages are essential forms of communication that are used on a day-to-day basis. Whether its at home, school, work, or at a restaurant, we use language to interact with one another. Languages change over time as different phrases or words change meanings. There are controversial languages that to some are outdated or no longer recognized as a common source of communication. One of those controversial languages is Latin, a language that has been around for a numerous amount of years.
They fail to understand that either dialect of English will allow them to communicate competently. Knowing how to speak British English is not going to make an individual a competent speaker of the English language nor is it going to help people understand what you are trying to communicate. Unfortunately, the people of Nigeria fell victim to ideological domination by believing that people who speak British English ought to be respected and must be smarter than someone who does not speak British English. There is nothing inherent that makes British English better than Nigerian English. It is evident all across the globe that people hold English to a higher standard than their own native language, however, there is nothing in English that makes it better than any particular language.
Often when one is prompted to think of an empire, the Roman Empire comes to mind. The Romans started from a small piece of land along the Tiber River in central Italy, and within a millenia amassed an unprecedented territory comprising of parts of all 3 known continents of the ‘old world’ and dozens of countries, peoples, cultures, and languages. This massive empire certainly had a large impact on its peoples during its power; however, even today one may find the massive impact of the Roman empire in various languages, governments, and religions all over the globe. Language is one of the most important aspects of a culture. Language dictates how and what people literally and figuratively speak to one another.

Standardization of the English Language English was not the original indigenous language of Britain. The first arrival of the Anglo-Saxons in Britain, the inhabitants of the country spoke Celtic languages. Yet English shows few dialects brought by the Germanic invaders. Nor was the subsequent growth of English within Britain a smooth or inevitable trajectory. After the Norman invasion, English was not the first language of the ruling classes.
