The first activity is interactive to create a basic awareness of the nonverbal concept of touch. The students will be paired up in two and sit facing each other, although their eyes will be closed. The teacher will instruct the students to hold their hands up in front of them, and to touch flatly their partner’s hand. Keeping in mind their eyes are to remain closed and are supposed to use their hands to communicate throughout this entire activity, the teacher should instruct the students to say “hello” to their partner’s hands. Then instruct the students to have an argument, and afterwards have the pairs make up and say sorry.
In this scenario, when Johnny first asks Ken, “does your friend have to stay here all the time?” , he is coming off rather strong and it is catching Ken off guard since Johnny is not being fully clear about his question to Ken, therefore, Ken is more likely to respond negatively and defensively. After Ken responds, Johnny gives a vague response and does not provide and reasons why he changed his mind. Johnny’s reply is also a high level abstract language response and it makes it hard for Ken to understand how Johnny is feeling and what he is going through.
As discussed in the article by Clive Thompson, many people use different ways of speaking. Based on text conversations, social media posts, and comments language has made a drastic change. TBH grammar has made like a huge change on society. Lookin at billboards and social media, people post is a totally diff manner than speaking. Lol I remember the last conversation I had with my aunt that lives in Charleston, SC.
The reason why I want to be part of the National English Honor Society is because English is my favorite subject. Since I was young, I have always been the reader in my family and it has always been one of my best subjects in school. Ever since I was young, I have always been the reader in my family. Reading has been my escape from the stress of school and work and is an outlet for me to relax. I often imagine myself as the character of the stories and try to figure out what I would do if I was the character in real life.
Literature is a various collection of stories and there are all distinct types. Literature first began in 700 to 702 bc. The subjects in literature are the author's life, events and characters, development of characters, tone, theme, tone, and works reflect. Some famous authors that have used literature include William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, and Charles Dickens. Jane Austen is an incredibly open and free writer, who created detailed character relationships, also creates flawed characters who are easy to relate to, and put them in tough situations, Austen was self-aware and realistic.
Gloria Anzaldúa, in the essay “How to Tame a Wild Tongue” (1987), claims her experiences as a Chicano taught her that her culture was not looked at highly in comparison to the English language. Anzaldúa argues her view about her Chicano language by giving examples of both cultures Chicano Mexican and American cultures. Anzaldúa’s purpose is to inform her audience on how it is to grow up in a Chicano speaking family. Anzaldúa writes in a frustrating tone throughout the story of her life experiences. Thesis: Anzaldúa use of her personal experiences, and Music, Film and Literature are relevant sufficient and
AP Language and Composition in my ears sounds terrifying knowing that English is not a strong subject of mine. I have never been one to enjoy reading, but I always thought I was a satisfactory writer because I was receiving A’s and positive feedback. This made it a no brainer to take Honors English 10. It went well for a while, but then I was hit with my first D, and I did not understand why. I was angry and upset.
Out of Breath Becoming accustomed to a new language is difficult, especially when it is not one’s primary language. Amy Tan, the author of “Mother Tongue” went through this same situation. Tan’s mother had a hard time with the way she spoke English because no one seemed to understand what she wanted to convey. Amy Tan uses her story as a way to let the audience know about how language can lead people to be prejudice, connect people, change perception and open new doors in life.
ENG 101 DB Vocabulary Write a reflection on how plan on improving your vocabulary in this class or how you have done so in the past. Even though I am a mature learner, I take pride in working to improving myself. Since, I have been back in school I have made it a point to try and expand my vocabulary and improve my spelling. One tool that I use is the the thesaurus online.
Early on in my childhood, I was taught that the proper way to respond to an adult when they were speaking to me was to use the words “ma’am” and “sir”. If I did not do so and in my mother’s presence, she would get upset with me and tell me that it was disrespectful and rude. By growing up and being raised in the South, I have learned that this is true within multiple other households and not strictly my own. Seeing that this was a cultural display of respect and politeness portrays how these kinds of mannerisms are said to be the qualifier for whether you could be considered as a properly raised and polite individual. James Baldwin, an African American writer, declares the importance and necessity of proper language; however, he does not stop there.
Speaking English becomes one of substantial ability for people nowadays that can be one of causes I have studied in Canada. People are exposed many field where they should use English language when people are surfing internet, reading original major program books even meeting foreign people in work places. These reasons are that why I have learned English since elemental school student in Korea; nevertheless, my English ability was struggled. Since, they taught to focus on only English grammar not practical speaking. Consequently, I decided to come to Canada.
The Modern English language has a rich history, it develops and changes like many other world languages. The English language has mainly been influenced by Latin, Germanic and French over a period of two thousand years. The English Lexicon includes words from over 120 countries, however Latin, Germanic and Latin account approximately less than 30% each. The English language is second to none in the variety and amount of lexical words. The most penetrating influence on English in history is French during the Middle English period after the Norman conquests.
After a night of difficult homework, my best friend asserted, “‘homework wastes time’” but my teacher argued, “‘homework exercises the brain’”. Euphemism, substitution of the softer ‘exercises the brain’ for a much harsher ‘wastes time’, downplayed the student’s criticism and turned the criticism into an argument that benefits the teacher. Both phrases in this case refer to similar meanings of self assurance but imply different connotations that drastically change the effect of the words. Throughout the English language, numerous words exist to convey the same idea and provoke different reactions from various audiences. White leaders often take advantage of euphemisms to belittle malfeasance and exert power over minority groups.
