CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION
This chapter will introduce the importance of English and provide the background of the study which is followed by the statement of the problem. Besides, the objective of this study will be defined and research questions will be stated. Then, the pedagogical benefits of this research will be addressed and the limitation of the research will be referred to. Finally, an overview of chapers in this study will be glanced at.
1.1. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
Based on the statement of the problem, the objective of this study was to understand and evaluate the effectiveness of the use of pictures in teaching writing a descriptive paragraph for the students with the hope to improve students’ writing proficiency at the eleventh graders at Nguyen Khuyen high school in the academic year of 2014- 2015.
1.4. RESEARCH QUESTION
The matter that will be investigated in this study is:
"How is the effectiveness of using pictures to teach writing descriptive paragraphs to the eleventh graders of Nguyen Khuyen High School in the academic year of 2014- 2015?"
In order to answer this question, the researcher supposed the minor following questions:
1. What are difficulties the students at Nguyen Khuyen high school facing while learning the writing skill?
2. How is the effect of applying pictures for teaching descriptive paragraphs?
