E (Everett): Today we have Elon Musk. Elon, thank you for joining us. EM (Elon Musk): Thanks for having me. E: So, I wanted to spend the time today talking about entrepreneurship and what you think defines an entrepreneur. I know that a lot of the interviews you do often involve talking about the more technical aspects of SpaceX and Tesla, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to discuss entrepreneurship. To start off, could you tell us a little about your background before SpaceX and Tesla? EM: Yeah, sure. I was born in Pretoria, South Africa.Like any other young boy I read a lot of comic books growing up, and sometimes regular books. Back then, whenever something new happened with technology or inventions it seemed like it was …show more content…
Much less know that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. At one point I did think that inventing and creating new things would be cool to do for a living… but I wasn’t sure if that meant I had to start my own company to make new things, or work for a company that was really innovative. It wasn’t until college when I really thought about starting my own company. I didn’t make my way out to Silicon Valley until I was a graduate student, I was studying applied physics at Stanford. That was around 1995, when the Internet was still really new. I did think that the Internet would change the world though, and I wanted to be a part of that. My first step towards that was to get a job. I applied for a job at Netscape, but I didn 't get a reply. I wasn’t even thinking yet of starting my own company. I thought for sure that I would get a reply from Netscape. I had a physics and economics degree, and on top of that I was studying applied physics and materials science. For whatever reason, I didn 't get a reply from Netscape and I was so determined to get a job that I went to their offices and waited around in the main lobby. So I 'm just like standing in the lobby… it was a pretty embarrassing moment for me. I ended up leaving because I just couldn’t gather up the courage to talk to someone. Looking back, I probably didn’t get a reply because I didn’t have a computer science degree...or some experience as a software
Entrepreneurs controlled the Gilded Age creating a growing economy with booming businesses and yet this has not changed over the years. John Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie can be compared to those with the names Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Multibillionaires, who know what the consumers desire, is what these men are best at. They knew and now know business well enough to be able to control our country’s’ economy. However, these successful business men do not do it together.
My Sit Down With Tate Lindemann Recently, I had the privilege of sitting down with Tate Lindemann for an interview about his life. We chatted about his high school career, his love for track, and the artifact he brought with him. I came into the interview thinking that it was going to be the typical jock story, but it was like a slap to the face when he started unveiling his past. I asked Tate if he could use one word to describe his high school career, and his response was that he would choose the word fun.
This years cross country went off pretty well if you ask Harrisburg cross country runner Alexander Auch, If you ask him he will tell you that his favorite part of the season was watching his teammates improve and grow as a better runner and placing top 10 in just about every race and getting first in Brookings with a time of 16:40.66 and getting second as a team. Alex isn 't sure yet what he will do running wise after High School but he says if he get the opportunity to run in college he will take it and run with it. He will also say that he is exited for next year and looking forward to it he was been running all winter inside and out and don 't be surprised when you see him in the summer out there because the Harrisburg team has a summer
During the interview between Skipp Rutherford and Mack McLarty there were more anecdotes shared then facts I would say. I believe that the stories made the event more colorful and set the tone to be very reminiscent. One story that really stood out to me was when McLarty discussed how he had to approach the president about Vince killing himself. One issue with this interview was that many of the stories shared regarded history from so long ago that I had no idea what they were talking about, especially since they did not use many details. So when McLarty brought up Vince, I immediately got on my phone and had to google who vince was, and what happened.
Dr. Fernando Garson’s interview with Mike Anderson and Mark Myers points out several similarities as well as differences. Similarly, Mike and Mark both shared an awareness of socioeconomically and environmental conditions. Mike was raised in an integrated neighborhood where he had Caucasian friends, and Mark was raised by a single parent. Mark’s family was poor unlike Mike’s family who was a middle-class family with strong family bonds. Nevertheless, Mike’s family was considered middle-class; he was not exempt from the black man’s experience.
Jonas Givens Jr. is the wise, loving, and caring 84-year-old man who gave me an intriguing look as to what life was like as a child in the 1930’s through being an elderly man in 2015. He is also my last living grandparent and this interview gave me the perfect opportunity to learn more about him and his life. I’ve always been particularly interested in how our childhood and young adult lives differed considering the fact that he always makes it a point to tell me how spoiled the world has me, and how lazy the younger generations are because we have so much technology. Due to him living in South Carolina, I usually communicate with him by calling his house phone since he refuses to buy a cell phone, but for this specific interview I asked
The most influential speech to me is one that Ray Lewis gave back in 2012 to his former college, The Miami Hurricanes. In the first part of this speech, Ray Lewis talks about effort. He says, “there has never been a time where someone has consistently beat me to the ball, that doesn’t have anything to do with talent it just has everything to do with effort”. For me, putting this into life perspective, it means that no matter how hard things get effort is the key. Effort will get you through any obstacle, whether it is football, school, work, or life in general.
Now you are part of the team. Then the fame and the glory come flying at you. Most of the time this fame gets to you and your head and you slowly start to go tumbling downhill. This is a common theme among young and upcoming high school lacrosse stars. According to Lax Power, nearly 70% of the high school lacrosse stars end up outraging their coaches mid way through their career, while the other 30% race away from the sport all together.
Introduction Motivational interviewing is a collaborative, person-centred form of communication which focuses on the language of change. ‘It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion’ (Miller et al., 2013, p.29). The technique of motivational interviewing was developed by two psychologists, Bill Miller and Steve Rollnick. Motivational interviewing is therapeutic to patients as it is based on a partnership, rather than a nurse-patient relationship (Heckman et al., 2010). There are four processes of motivational interviewing; engaging, focusing, evoking and planning.
I 've learned while conducting these interviews that both indivuials have similar issues within the healthcare system. one of the biggest issues both interviewees faces was the cost of healthcare and health insurance coverage. One of the interviewees has a chronic illness, and at times has to decide if she wants to purchase her needed medication or to buy groceries for herself and her family. The other interviewee although employed, doesn 't have health insurance coverage because its too costly every month. it seems they 're both appreciative of the fact there is a somewhat healthcare system with health care providers and professionals available to them, but feels its only available if you have health insurance coverage.
eventhough I wasn't even thinking of applying. I just like it I guess. Everytime I join the server all I do is paying attention into the chat so if someone needs help I can help him as soon as possible.
Elon Musk’s Style of Communication The way a business leader communicates has a great influence on the organization’s internal and external operations. Steve Jobs is still the world’s greatest corporate storyteller. The iPhone presentation unleashed a wave of enthusiasm towards Apple that they are still riding today. Here are listed the techniques used. First, constant interrogations helped the audience’s understanding and cached their attention.
Introduction The moon landing was an exciting and phenomenal event, but a mars landing would be even more exciting for humanity. " In college, I wanted to be involved in things that would change the world. Now I am (Iliev, 2018). " These are the words of the man behind the dream and ambition to land on Mars under the SpaceX Program.
However, he found a way and he was able to produce a operating system for IBM Company. That was the key turning point in his life. If he had given up on his dreams there would have not been Windows for us to use today. As Bill Gates says “ Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people and thinking they can’t lose”.
