Global Deforestation

Throughout history, deforestation has had a variety of effects on the global world. As the world and the people on it grow and develop, deforestation increases as well. The United States and Brazil are specific countries that have lost millions of acres of land to deforestation. This massive clearing of land and forests has a major impact on these countries such as climate change, species extinction, and environmental and biodiversity corruption. The land, environments, and species destroyed take 50 or more years to regrow. Furthermore, deforestation has long-lasting effects and no immediate solutions. The global world environment has suffered from such extreme deforestation that has led to greater problems concerning the ecosystem and further, …show more content…

The United States offers a variety of resources that have benefited the global world. Throughout history and since deforestation has become more prevalent, global resources have been abused and are becoming scarcer. When it comes to resources, the consequences of unregulated deforestation have become evident. Through history, the world has exploited limited, nonrenewable resources for sustainable development. Many countries depend on natural resources for economic profit. For example, a study shows that “between 1970-1989 Costa Rica lost natural resources equaling more than one year 's gross domestic product (184 billion colones = US $4.1 billion).” These resources mostly included forests and soil that were destroyed. Costa Rica’s inflation increased, and the economy suffered as resources and land were lost. Cuba’s economic and resource depreciation provides a quintessential example of the need for restrictions on deforestation and environmental degradation. “Each year, humans cut down an additional 32 million acres of forest.” This shows that the relationship between population growth and deforestation has been historically harmful. Population growth creates destructive demands on the worlds existing forests. Food demand is the main cause of land clearing, especially in developing countries. The Amazon has lost 2,490 square miles of land from 2009-2010 due to cattle ranching As populations grow, the demand for …show more content…

The human need to explore, develop, and advance has required the destruction of land and forests. During the 1900s and the industrialization period, deforestation became more prevalent in human advancement. Not until the 20th-century did humans consider the climatic, environmental, and economic impacts of deforestation and start to take provisions for our existence that was at risk. Even though the dangers of deforestation have on the world is known, it still continues. The reason for the continuation of deforestation lies in the developed western world and non-developed countries. The western world has preserved their forests while developing countries rely on the western worlds wealth to spur their own new economic growth from the exportation of goods that come from deforested land. For example, Indonesia economy is reliant on the exportation of palm oil. Indonesia’s deforestation for palm oil resulted in 235,000 fires in 2015 because of climate change which only hurt the environment even more. Deforestation has been prominent in the United States. Brazil, and the whole world. Through history, conservation acts have been carried out but developing countries still rely on deforestation to boost their economy. History has shown that deforestation is carried out due to industrialization. As developing countries build their economy, hopefully, they learn from the history of the western
