Environmental management systems
The environmental management system is a set of processes and practices that enable an organization to reduce its environmental impacts and increase its operating efficiency.[1] In order to achieve formal recognition for the environmental management systems, the desalination project are required to meet several elements of ISO 14001 which includes environmental policy, legal and other requirements, objectives and targets, monitoring, audits and management review.
Environmental policy
The environmental policy is defined as the public statement of an organization’s philosophy, intensions, and objectives regarding the environment. [2] The environmental management policy of desalination project can be considered as sufficient as it is developed with the reference of Victoria’s Environmental Sustainability Framework and DSE’s (Victoria’s lead government agency for sustainable management of water, climate change, bushfires, public land, forest and ecosystems) environmental management systems. It is a good practice as the relevant environmental legislative requirements and potential compliance requirements in statutory approvals for the project are embodied in the PEMP and the Project component EMPs. The Project Company is also subjected to regulation and enforcement of Project approvals under a number of Commonwealth and State Acts. Besides that, the declaration of Performance Requirements in desalination project have removed unacceptable environmental risks.
