INTRODUCTION:-
This paper explains the procedure of developing and standardizing an environmental sensitivity scale constructed by the investigator to measure the environmental sensitivity of secondary school students. The scale has been constructed by using Likert’s method of summation to obtain a five point judgment on each item. After critical study related to environmental education and environmental sensitivity five areas namely wildlife and forests, environmental pollution, population explosion, health and hygiene and conservation of environment were selected for constructing the tool. The pilot study had 90 items, related to all the five areas mentioned above. The newly constructed scale had face validity, content validity and reliability.

population explosion, health and hygiene, environmental pollution, wildlife & forests and concern for the conservation of environment. Individuals must have some cognitive knowledge of the environment to develop an intelligent concern for their natural surroundings. Education is a powerful medium for changing our behavior. Thus, this is a crucial time to realize that environmental sensitivity and environmental friendly behavior should be cultivated among masses particularly among adolescents through education. For the awareness of the society about the environment, it is essential to work at grass root level so that the whole society can work to save the environment. For this purpose, it is essential to educate and train children regarding the significance of healthy environment. When the students learn about the functioning of ecosystem and about environmental action strategies that contribute to their maintenance, they develop more environmentally responsible behavior on a daily basis. Therefore, environmental education has been recently strongly emphasized and has been taken into consideration when planning school curriculum by the developed and developing countries. Further, environmental education has been …show more content…
“Environmental Sensitivity Scale for secondary school students” consists of 70 items. While forming the items, related literature was extensively reviewed and the items were tried to be formed considering the behaviours of students regarding environment awareness and sensitivity. Student’s awareness of environment concerning the nearest environment of the students and the behaviours for protecting the environment.
The scale is Likert type five point rating scale and the student who answers the statements chooses one of the alternatives such as (5) strongly agree (4) agree (3) don’t know (2) disagree (1) strongly disagree, considering the demonstration level of the behaviour that each statement expresses. Therefore, by adding the total scores obtained, only one score is reached related to student’s environmental sensitivity. Thus, when all the statements are answered, the possible scores that a student can get from the scale ranges from 70 (the lowest) to 350 (the highest). While the high score obtained from the application indicates that the level of the student’s environmental sensitivity
In order to determine which dimensions are areas of improvement, the dimensions had to have an average of all scores in the dimension less than or equal to 4.99 using the information provided in Exhibit 4. Exhibit 4 was chosen because to provide the primary information because it views the attitude of other members, which could provide insight as to why they are not current members. The numbers less than or equal to 4.99 were chosen to be inclusive of all averages within four (4.00-4.99) and below. Additionally, it was chosen because 4 is the media of the seven-point rating scale, which would deem the rating neutral/satisfactory/okay.
The more children interact with nature, the more they tend to know about it, and learn to care about it. The river curriculum might be an effective tool among children for preserving and protecting the river from causing further harm and being extinct, As children plant trees in the bank of the river, or tour sewage plant, they tend to be more familiar
In the academic year of 2011-2012, I was responsible for increasing the percentage pass of the Living Environment by 10% at the World Academy for Total Community Health High school. The Living Environment Regents pass rate was 47% in 2010-2011. To achieve the goal, I examined the Item Analysis for the January 2012 Living Environment Regents. In summary, the students were only able to master 12 out of 85 questions.
Tara does have a difficulty in completing her homework assignments at school and has had to retake her freshman year of high school due to truancy, however her attendance at school is improving in her sophomore year. A child’s education is affected by various elements such as gender, race, environment, economic factors, privilege, and more. These elements shape the outcome of a student’s educational experience and learning. They also determine what and how students will learn. In order to create an appropriate learning environment, there should be a sense of community. In other words, the common goal should be helping students succeed and reach their maximum potential.
Once the environment is perceived as an equal part of an individual’s community, the human ethical spirit will respect the environment, cherish its benefits and beauty, and be obligated to preserve it. If future generations are taught to create harmony between the three pillars of society: economic, social, and environmental, further damage to the environment can be
Many children are being taken over by technology resources indoors and disregarding the outdoor life environment. Technology resources has taken over our lives and will discourage outdoor environment which is influenced by human interaction, having the ability to spend quality time with others, and being able to establish hands-on activities towards student’s interest in a classroom. What does it mean to incorporate nature inside and outside the classroom? Nature is the environment around someone. What is easier; hiding indoors surrounded by technology or playing outside with other children just being kids?
List three major educational changes over the past 100 years that have positively influenced students. Explain why these changes were influential. Educational trends were altogether different hundred years back. Students were considered to be individuals who had to learn everything, do lengthy homework and could be physically punished if they were unable to learn or concentrate.

If art and literature, mathematics, science, economics, statistics, history and religion is taught, why not teach the fundamental importance of ecological conservation? “Students are like sponges and observe information well if they learn about it starting at their early childhood education and throughout their school years. They should be aware of the importance of recycling, and therefore I strongly believe each school district should implement into their lesson plans a lesson of recycling in order for the students to begin recycling themselves” (Permalink). One must keep their environment clean. If we have to improve the public health then public awareness is a primary requirement. There are a number of ways in which we can spread awareness and educate the public how to protect the environment. Campaigns must be organized to make people aware, some of the examples for the awareness campaigns are: (a) Clean your neighbourhood (b) Vaccination and control of the diseases (c) Regular check-ups (d) Eating safer and healthier foods (e) Safe drinking water (f) Healthier mothers and babies and access to family planning (g) Recognition of tobacco and cigarette smoking as a threat to
Indeed, no citizen of the earth can afford to remain aloof from the issue related to the environment. It is therefore, essentially important that the study of the environment becomes an integral part of the education process. Environmental education increases public awareness and knowledge about environmental issues or problems. In doing so, it provides the public with the necessary skills to make informed decisions and take responsible actions. Needs and importance of positive attitude and awareness towards environment:
Students are most essential asset for any educational institute. The social and economic development is directly linked with student academic performance. The students’ performance plays an important role in producing the best quality graduates who will become great leader and manpower for the country thus responsible for the country’s economic and social development. Student academic performance measurement has received considerable attention in previous research, it is challenging aspects of academic literature, and science student performance are affected due to social, psychological, economic, environmental and personal factors. These factors strongly influence on the student performance, but these factors vary from person to person (Irfan Mushtaq and Shabana Nawaz
The outdoors is the perfect place for children to understand what the world is all about. They get to learn about the weather, life cycles, the different seasons, how light and dark works, as well as sounds. Nature offers the perfect classroom and children can really benefit from it. This part of the early year’s curriculum is all about how they learn and not what they learn. This is an important tool and if it is used early enough it can have a positive effect on their lives as they grow and mature.
