“The dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they act on their dreams with open eyes to make it possible,” Lawrence of Arabia once said. Men can be dangerous. Those who follow their desires and explore the forbidden are pledged to hold the world upon its inner core. If the forbidden is challenged and faced with its true reality, then the greatness you find is the long lost concealed knowledge. This is what the character Equality realizes in the book “Anthem”. For example, people who don’t go to college tend to be seen as “uneducated” or foreshadowed to be in a crippling future which results in the belief that one’s self is a failure. This is seen in Equality’s personal experiences throughout his teenage years. One such example is when Equality says, “But we cannot change our bones nor our body. We were born with a curse ” to create this sense of illusory truth effect that Equality faces (Rand 6). Rand uses the words “we were born with a curse” to illustrate the effect society has on Equality by showing how he believes what his society wants him to believe about himself. Another example can be seen when Equality says, “We were guilty and we confess it here. We preferred some work and some lessons to others” to express the idea that taking different paths in life rather than society’s way makes a person seen as committing an act of omission (Rand 8). This can be seen in the quote when Rand uses words like “preferred some work and some lessons to others” to convey that Equality's uniqueness in ways of thinking that is different from his society’s way leads Equality to think that his morals are wrongful and should be avoided. This is shown when Equality himself says, “We were guilty and we confess it,” to prove that his way of thinking is affected by his society. Although Equality is pressured by his society, …show more content…
One must speak out what his inner self wants to prove and find. This is what Equality’s dream is, to find the past forgotten knowledge and share it to his people. Controlled by his society he is forced to keep his thoughts to himself. Later on, Equality realizes that a person who keeps his thoughts to himself all the time has nothing to think about except his own thoughts. In order to achieve his dream, Equality learns that he must chart the uncharted and stomp out of his fears. One such example is when Equality says “The secrets of this earth are not for all men to see, but only for those who will seek them,” to reveal that Equality starts moving towards his goals (Rand 25). This is shown in the quote when Rand uses the words “only for those who will seek them,” to express the idea that not everyone is capable of achieving their goals except those who follow their own desires and step out of their comfort zone. An example can be seen when Equality decides to pluck up the courage and spread his knowledge to the people of the council knowing there will be serious consequences to his sayings in which he says “We give you the key to earth! Take it, and let us be one of you, the humblest among you. Let us work together,”(Rand 36). Rand uses words like “We give you the key to earth!” to show Equality is trying to spread out his findings to his people and teach them the power humankind is capable

As the story progresses Equality starts to evolve beyond the guilt which he has endured for so long.
As stated in Anthem, “For we did not understand what had made us do this, and we were afraid to understand it” (Rand, 1995, p. 58). This explains that Equality didn’t even understand why he made the choices that he did. Equality chose to change his life, but he really doesn’t know why he did it. Equality

Equality was living in a world where citizens were suffocated with the concepts of altruism and collectivism, and where conformity conquers all. In the Uncharted Forest, Equality stumbles upon hundreds of novels, full of words desperate to be read, and forbidden phrases frantic to be brought to the surface. Equality states to Liberty that they should “forget all things save that we are together and that there is joy as a bond between us… It is own our world, Golden One, a strange unknown world, but our own” (83-84). Equality becomes inspired to go back to the Home of the Street Sweepers to build a vengeful army of vigorously robust go-getters that will build their own empire, based on the fundamentals of independence and

Anthem is a science fiction novella written by Ayn Rand and is a story about finding one's individuality, which is important because it allows a person to stand out in a crowd and teaches one to not just follow someone else. A person needs to learn that it is acceptable to be different and once one realizes that, they need to use it for good and positive reasons. Society broadcasts that it is unacceptable to be different and that there is a specific way to live; however, Ayn Rand writes about how one can defy this standard. Equality used to think that he had to be equal to everyone else and follow the rules in order to survive in society. In the book it says “We are one in all and all in one.
He thinks about the life that he wants for himself and finally breaks from collectivism. He runs away towards the abandoned Uncharted Forest. When Equality gets there he already loves the atmosphere; he loves the feeling of being able to be free and to only care about himself. Equality mentions, “For, upon the blue of the sky below us, we saw our own face for the first time” (Rand 80). He is finally able to see himself for who he is.
Equality is finally free from his oppressive collectivist society, and he wants to make his own. What will his society be like and why was the city’s society so controlling and strict? The fictional novel Anthem by Ayn Rand gives evidence to how equality will be making his society from experience in his old city. He will not make a society as oppressive as the city but will understand that some control is necessary.
Tomorrow…”(67) Equality still believed his “blessing” could change society, could improve the lives of his brothers. Furthermore, he still held on to hope that he could rationalize his differences, and prove to his society that he was not a curse, but a blessing. Equality is still striving to be likewise his brothers, this “box” is ultimately his purpose for living, as it is going to make him accepted, the goal in his society. This purpose transforms, though, as Equality discovers his true purpose of living, himself. “I wished to know the meaning of things.
Have you ever discovered something that would change the world? Something that was so important that it could rewrite history. In the book Anthem by Ayn Rand a character named equality makes such a discovery. After he makes the discovery one begins to wonder about things such as, what was his motivation? He knows that what he discovered will benefit his brothers yet that does not seem to be his motivation.
There's so much emphasis on putting others before oneself that people often forget to look out for their own needs, as shown in this book. Ayn Rand successfully captures the negatives of an overrated ideology and presents an unorthodox perspective on the matter. In conclusion, Equality's true motives behind his work are much more selfish than they first appear to be. Equality strives to fulfil his own personal desire rather than contribute everything to society, and this isn't necessarily a negative thing.
17).In this quote Ayn Rand implies how equality is the only one who thinks differently from the community he lives in. and suggests that the light is his individuality and the darkness is the sameness in society. Another piece of evidence to support this is, “We can give our brothers a new light, cleaner and brighter than any they have
