Abstract
Ergonomic play a great role in all areas of textile and garment manufacturing industries which provides proper working condition for workers health and safety, proper use of tools while towards productivity improvement.
The textile industry is one of the prioritized manufacturing subsectors for the transformation of the country’s agriculture led economy into industry led economy. However, researches made so far indicate that most textile factories in Ethiopia are at a risk of low productivity.

The textile industry is one of the prioritized manufacturing subsectors for the transformation of the country’s agriculture led economy into industry led economy. However, researches made so far indicate that most textile factories in Ethiopia are at a risk of low productivity (international trade center). The textile industries are also labour-intensive more than other sectors work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) caused by uncomfortable working postures, repetition of tasks, prolonged working in sitting or standing positions, bad workplace design etc.
Workplace risk is one of the key areas requiring attention so that overall well-being at the workplace can be assured by investigating issues and recommending strategies that can help designers in the promotion of design solutions. The focus on the worker from the ergonomic point of view would effectively support the goals and objectives for overall productivity improvement in the case companies. For management the study result will inform areas that need improvement and how to care for workers in order to reduce workers’ exposures to risk factors and implement the proposed solutions. Other manufacturing companies will also get benefit from the finding of the study.
Finally this highlights the importance of the implementation of effective ergonomic practices in the textile industry that would improve the competitive status of organization.
Research Methodology
This research aims at assessing the level of risk attached to existing working strategies in the selected textile sectors, and to achieve this, a five step approach will be used; selection of appropriate tasks and workers, observation, data collection, data analysis and recommendations for improvement.
