The shooting had two shooters, Eric Harris, and Dylan Klebold. They ended up killing 15 people, including themselves and injured 24. The Columbine school shooting was supposed to be a bombing but the bombs did not go off so the shooters started shooting the students and staff instead. Many conspiracy theories surrounding the shooting arose. Harris was seen as a brutal mastermind while Dylan was seen as a depressed hot-headed. Many believe Harris was a psychopath and a great manipulator. Eric Harris was manipulative because he could manipulate Dylan Klebold into helping him blow up Columbine …show more content…
Harris was able to befriend and manipulate Klebold into helping him pull off a psychotic plan. Klebold was quite a gullible person in the first place. Mixing that with Eric’s manipulative tendencies, creates a dangerous “dyad” as some may say. Harris used multiple different ways to manipulate Klebold. Dylan would often question Harris’ plan but Eric would often reassure Dylan that the plan was bulletproof. Once Klebold questioned Harris about the bombing. He was worried about the police interfering during the shooting and he kind of wanted to back out. Eric reassured him by creating distraction bombs to make sure the police are not near the school. Klebold showed that he was not a large fan of bombing the school. He gave a friend Eric’s journal where he talked about the bombing. It was a sign that he did not feel safe stopping him himself so he tried to get someone else to stop him. Harris never truly wanted a friend, he wanted a person he could manipulate into helping him. Harris “befriended” a half-Jewish boy while he is a known Nazi and antisemitic. If he truly wanted a friend, he would not have befriended someone who was a part of a group he hated but Harris viewed Klebold as someone who was willing to listen to him and was easy to manipulate. Eric was simply a manipulative psychopath while Dylan was the depressed manipulated …show more content…
Eric was referred to a psychiatrist after the stealing incident, which to him meant he had another person to manipulate. Harris would often make it seem he was trying to get better and was trying to change but he never was. What he told his psychiatrist often contradicted what he said in his journal. He would put in a facade that he truly wanted to get help but his journals painted a different story. In his journal, where he wrote his true thoughts, he expressed that the psychiatrist and others were not trying to help him but instead were trying to turn him into a mindless zombie. Harris viewed his way of thinking as the correct way of viewing the world and everyone else was wrong. He viewed them as mindless zombies and drones. He viewed himself as superior and God compared to them. It is not uncommon for psychopaths to manipulate people like mental health professionals (Cullen 275). Harris purposefully lied to his psychiatrist to get them off his back but he did it mostly because he could. Harris enjoyed lying to people and having people believe him. It made him feel like a God. Harris was highly manipulative but some say

In the book Columbine by Dave Cullen, Dylan and Eric are the two teenage boys who was in control of the high school shooting. We can only assume why they did it. The boys both had their own problems and just seemed to click when they were together. Eric was a psychopath and Dylan would listen to him.

After a while, they committed suicide near the library. We aren’t 100% sure of the main reason for these attacks. Since bullying was common at Columbine High School, the students believed the reason was that Dylan & Eric were considered outcasts. It will forever leave a scar on those who remember it.

Eric Harris was a classic psychopath, Gladwell mentioned. He was charming and manipulative but was habitual lawbreaker, he had stolen, vandalized, bought guns illegally. Harris had wrote in german, “I am God” in his agenda. He quoted, “ I want to tear a throat out with my own teeth like a pop can, I want to get someone with my hand, to tear a head off and rip out the heart and lungs from the neck, to stab someone in the gut, shove it up to their heart” (Gladwell
But these two boys went to their own high school with a plan for a bombing, when that bombing failed they turned to an unplanned shooting that killed twelve students, one teacher and injured twenty people. April 20th. Seems like a normal sunny day in April. But in 1999 on this day, the events of Columbine happened. A day that everyone in Littleton will always remember.
Eric Harris lived on the edge, he liked the way felt and the way that it gave him power. The way that he thinks, the way he control himself was not like a normal person. “Psychopathic brains don’t function like those in either of the other groups, but they are consistently similar to one another. Eric killed for two reasons: to demonstrate his superiority and to enjoy it” (Cullen p. 239). He knew what he was doing and how he wanted the situations to play out.

Harris impaired ability to perform or act as a functioning member of society was due in part to his background but also his mental illness. Harris could not have picked out his family, his natural tendencies, or his character; therefore, he is innocent of the crimes he committed since his fate was already determined due to his lack of control over the situation. With the combined background of Robert Harris and his mental illness, he cannot be held morally responsible for his actions on July 5,

The Columbine shooting was one of the first mass school shootings in the US, and it was one of the first school shootings on the national radar in which the shooters killed twelve students and one teacher. People sometimes admire these people and reason people try to replicate this shooting is because they sometimes idolize former school shooters. These followers will try and replicate the former assailants, in which inducing another shooting/mass shooting. It is purely disgusting that people would idolize the monsters that committed these terrible attacks on innocent
