I am Passionate about a career in pediatrics. My ultimate life ambition is to become a remarkable and respected physician.
I was born in the small farming community of Rose Hall, in my home country St. Vincent and the Grenadines. I was a middle child, an avid reader and self-motivated. My early upbringing was in a village where everybody knew one another and cultivated genuine community spirit. At the age of eleven, I relocated to our capital, Kingstown, to attend one of the top high schools in my country. Consequently, I spent the majority of each year away from my family. Despite this sudden change and the uncertainties that shadowed it, I was blessed with various life impacting opportunities that I would not have gained in a school in my rural district. After high school, I was the first in my family to enter and successfully

Nevertheless, I believe I still have a lot to accomplish as well as to contribute. I now find myself ready to embark on the next phase of my professional career. I therefore, look forward to another opportunity where I can optimize my learning experience and broaden my knowledge base, so I can better serve my patients and define my place in the medical world. I am a driven and pleasant person that easily establishes a good rapport with others. I work well both within the group and individual settings. I eagerly anticipate being a part of your residency program, which I am confident will hone my already acquired skills and allows ample room for further professional and personal development. My career ambitions are towards either general pediatrics or pediatric oncology. Equally, my overall aspiration is to evolve into a well-rounded and honorable medical professional. I believe my residency training will not only add to my clinical experience but will also assist me in realizing this
Thank you for taking the time to review my personal statement on why I have chosen to embark on the journey to become a Physician Assistant. My story started several years ago, more than I care to count, when I stumbled into the health care world as a paramedic in rural Pennsylvanian. While in high school, I became friends with several other students who were actively volunteering with a local fire department. After hearing their stories about the things they were learning and doing I also joined a volunteer fire department, mostly out of curiosity. Over the course of a couple of years I discovered that the challenges that I encountered during training and responding to emergencies had unlocked some unrealized, more like unknown, drive inside
Like anyone in high school, especially coming from Kenwood’s academic center, I have had my share of struggles and roadblocks in every
Their approach to the world, even in the face of terminal diagnoses, is tenacious and inspiring. I want nothing more than to simply be a part of that power. Medicine has the unique ability to save lives, but it can also be draining. Pediatrics is a juxtaposition of levity and critical thinking at the intersection of embryology, genetics, and physiology. Where else can I turn a gown into a Minion costume because a patient is scared of us as we walk in with masks and gowns on?
Life has its twists and turns, but my overall life goal is simple, help others. I want to make an impact on others life, even if it is a small change. For instance, being able to hold a pencil is the difference between a student being able to graduate from Kindergarten and not be able to continue on to first grade. Being a Pediatric occupational therapist will help me make an impact on children at a very young age. Even small changes can have a large impacts, which is why I want to be that change for others.
Pediatric nursing is a great career choice because I will have the opportunity to interact with young children and help them. Also, there are many job opportunities in this field. The jobs for Pediatric Nurses are increasing over the years. It would be easy to find a good job in the field of Pediatric Nursing, while still working on improving my career. I plan to approach my career by going to college and working as a RN to gain some experience.
My Intent to Be a Nurse Practitioner Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.
Unsurprisingly, MD Anderson being one of the best cancer hospitals in the world has drawn me towards the 1st Year Medical Student Program. The prospect of being a part of the bleeding edge of scientific discovery in the world of cancer research is captivating to me. Combating cancer through scientific research at MD Anderson that may one day benefit my future patients would be an unforgettable experience. In addition, the clinical opportunities offered by the 1st Year Medical Student Program would allow me to interface with some of the best clinicians in the world. I hope to cultivate my knowledge under their mentorship so that I may become a better physician for my
National Junior Honor Society is the start of everything. This group helps set me up for my years to come. Being in the NJHS it helps me get into the one in high school, which looks really good one college applications. Having national junior honor society for both middle school and high school would give me a better chance to get into a college I really want to get into. I’ve always wanted to be someone who could help or make a change in this world, instead of just trying to get through life easy.
The position also is a segue into my current educational goals, which are geared toward a Human Services Degree. Over the past twelve years I have worked in the health care field. While working in the various jobs I have had several administrative assistant duties, which included patient intake, data entry/analysis, inventory management, etc. As previously stated, this position consists of patient care and administrative both are predominant in my career growth. I have expanded knowledge of what this position requires over the course of twelve years. 2.

Many people come across roadblocks through their journey of life. I know I've had my fair share of them. The biggest bump in my academic life was changing it completely upside down. Growing up african American or with any skin that holds the slightest of pigment is not easy, but that's obvious due to our nation's past. Racism and stereotypeing has always been there.
In becoming one, I hope to accomplish many things. I want to be able to utilize the skills and knowledge that I have developed and apply them to the best of my ability in the care of my patients. By doing so, I will make an impact on the lives of every patient that I meet. Furthermore, I will continue to learn throughout my practice by continually researching new proven methods of care and eventually contributing to the improvement of health care in the future. Overall, I envision myself to not only be a care provider, but also a leader, researcher, advocate, and educator (Yoost & Crawford, 2016).
