In first place is important to remember that no matter what career students are pursuing; they will always need to write essay and different papers in their classes. While writing the unit 3 paper, I got to practice and meet the course objective of actively reading. While reading the assigned articles, Begley and Heilbroner, I left comments in the margins as well as underlining quotes that stuck out to me that I could potentially use in my essay. Another objective that I struggled with is the idea of properly combining my ideas with the ideas of others. I understand that doing this can make your paper stronger. It can help open more doors and help you go someplace in your paper you didn’t think you could go.
Which of the authors in this chapter provided you with the most useful information for improving your own writing, and why? Intro:I never find a way where I can easily start writing with no problem. I am either too distracted, too bored, or trying too hard to focus that I actually don’t get anything done. Forcing myself to sit down and focus doesn’t give me a great start, it worsens my mind because I’m feeling more pressured.I know that writers struggle at first and once they start there is no stopping them. I wait for that to happen to me, but I find myself stuck.
He may even believe that he has put forth all of the effort that he could give and there is nothing else he could do to fix it. However, a student with grit might be disappointed in the grade he received and decide that there is something he could do to help fix it. This student might seek assistance on the assignment that he struggled with so he will not have to worry about the same mistakes in the future, whereas a student without grit probably does not look for assistance to better himself. The extra assistance will allow the student with grit to achieve the highest grade possible. Another difference these students have is how they prioritize.
Their worries only fueled my urge to continue with this difficult challenge. So I ambitiously went on to starting the year with 4 AP courses. However, things did not go as expected. Among my 4 AP courses, one of the classes I took was AP calculus BC. I heard it was known as one of the hardest,
The purpose of this letter is to introducing my portfolio and how I have improved my writing skills particularly in different genres during this semester. Also, I realized that writing is a challenge for me, particularly when I do not like writing or I do not think of myself as a good writer. However, I need to face challenges and through my academic program I can learn how to write better based on some strategies that you have already taught me. This semester I have applied some strategies as guidelines including prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing. Also, I have improved my writing skills through reading and analyzing different reliable articles, textbooks, and documents that were required for various assignments.
An excellent writer might revise their work by adding missed words or phrases, fix misspelled words, or reorganize their thoughts. Revision gives the writer a chance to see if their writing is really worth saying and if the reader will understand it. The writer should think “Does the introduction clearly state what you intend it to? Will your aims be clear to the reader?” My opinion about writing has changed positively because i now understand why writing is important for daily life. As I get better at writing, I have the opportunity to understand my own thoughts.
Taking this course has helped me mold my writing skills in the proper way that is vital for achieving my future goals. This class helped me change my writing style. I have a habit of making my writing very personable. When I’m reading a story, I love being able to feel emotion through the words but what I realized is that not everything that is written is a story. That is something I never considered before.
I tend to look for what I need when reading, which means I skip a lot of important information that later on I have to go back and look for. This also impacts my vocabulary and when writing I tend to get stuck when writing because I can find the words to express myself. For writing I need to take notes and brainstorm. I tend to just write straight the point and when I’m done I would always be short from the minimum word count. By having a plan, which involves taking notes and having a sequence of events on what I will be writing, it help me emphasize on the sections for a longer period and be able to write deeper
Even I progress on speaking after taking accent reduction class. Now, I feel that writing is much harder than the speaking. Writing involves a broad aspect such as critical thinking, critical analysis, grammar, sentence structure and much more. By taking WRTG 101 class, it helped me to improve on those aspects. I really need to admire a great mentor, the Professor Branch who guided me on every mistake that I do.
Additionally, my constant need for reading various masterpieces would also allow me follow patterns used by prominent authors with strong writing prowess. By the application of the given approaches, I look forward to having an improved ability to write in a better manner. However, since writing is a learning process, a future challenge could be the inability to improve suddenly as my already established style could require time to improve. Yet, I believe that change also requires constant practice dedication, and commitment, values that I hold dearly. The use of the be-verbs is another area that require improvement.
As a writer I still have a lot to work on to become the best possible writer I can be. The skills I need to work on enable to become a better writer are punctuation, grammar, vocabulary, imagination and process. If I can improve my areas on weakness I will only be bettering myself. To improve these skills I can read different types of literally works from magazines to novels to improve my skills. Also reading an assortment of writing will widen knowledge on the different formats people choose to write in.
I generally begin my pre-writing with a healthy dose of procrastination, much like what I am doing right at this very moment. This is unfortunately due to an inherent flaw in my psyche, a crack in my foundation if you will, so there’s not much I can really do about it. I love pre-writing because I get to procrastinate on the actual writing portion by spending a ridiculous amount time on researching and building my outlines. Contrary to what you might think, my prewriting actually tends to be highly organized. I’m quite scatterbrained, so if I don’t have a freakishly mechanical outline it will be a lot harder for me to formulate my ideas further down the line.
I tend to debate if my explanations are correct and clear. As mentioned earlier I’m well with sticking to a position but I still have an uncertainty with making proper reasoning. For instance, I always ask myself if this part of my essay be included. To be more specific, I tend not to have the best possible structured syntax and grammar. Some of my words or sentences may not make sense making it difficult for the audience to comprehend what I’m writing.
Good writing means that you keep erasing what you wrote because, you don 't feel confident about it. It means you stress about it because, you cannot put the words together that you want. You cannot use the words we are used to writing like can 't and won 't. Good writing means it takes you through a roller coaster of emotions. To tell the truth I took this because Mrs.Hartman said it was, a good class to take.
