This UNESCO World Heritage Site has granite cliffs like the Half Dome and the El Capitan, Lakes like the Mirror Lake, waterfalls like Yosemite Falls and Bridalveil Falls, as well as glaciers, and crystal-clear streams among other features. In Katy Steinmetz’s article “A Monumental Fight” she give some background on how the dispute over the national funding of parks started. The dispute over national parks and their funding have been a debate for over a hundred years. It started in 1906 when Teddy Roosevelt used the Antiquities Act to create eighteen national monuments. National monuments legally must have objects of scientific or historical value to become a monument.

The Shasta and Trinity Forest Reserves were established by President Theodore Roosevelt’s proclamations in 1905. The forests combined administratively in 1954 and officially became the Shasta-Trinity National Forest (Shasta-Trinity or SHF). The Shasta-Trinity, the largest in California, encompasses 2.1 million acres with over 6,278 miles of streams and rivers. It ranges in elevation from 1,000 feet (Shasta Lake general area) to Mt. Shasta with an elevation of 14,162 feet.

In the essay, “A Literature of Place”, by Barry Lopez focuses on the topic of human relationships with nature. He believes human imagination is shaped by the architectures it encounters within life. Lopez first starts his essay with the statement that geography is a shaping force for humans. This shaping force is what creates our imagination; the shaping force is found within nature. Everything humans see within nature is remembered, thus creating new ideas and thoughts for our imagination.
It is a place that people can escape the harsh and cruelness of the world through enjoying the peace and serenity of nature. Many people don't take into account and admire the surroundings that were created for us. This is why I have chosen to observe my own public park. February 6, 2016 was a rather unusual winter day because of the high temperatures that was in the 90° F. During the early afternoon when I arrived
