The teenage years can be considered the transitional stage from childhood to adulthood of an individual between the age of 13 and 19. Being 22, I am not too far from my adolescence at the moment. But looking back to these days makes me realize that I have gone through the most important period of my life which was pretty tough and full of emotions as a teenager. From my point of view, being a teen in today’s society is moderately challenging. It is not only about dealing with the constant and dramatic changes both physically and mentally, but also the responsibility that comes with maturity, which I suppose, is the most significant part about growing up. However, without a doubt, it is undeniable that there are a handful of positive things …show more content…
Frankly, I think one of the most favorable parts that should be highlighted is the opportunity of a young adult for obtaining part-time employment which he ultimately finds without being worried about high salary or wage for a living. While some choose to go job-free through their teenage years, having a part-time job is definitely a great way to get a taste of the real world. Even if teenagers spend a small amount of hours each week working, this employment will provide them with the opportunities for gaining valueable work experiences which enable teens to land the ideal jobs and boost their promising careers in the future. Also, this will allow young people for extra expenditure arising from the money they earn themselves. Furthermore, taking on a job will encourage the young’s abilities to live independently from their parents and offer them the opportunity for saving up and practicing financial decision making. In recent times, part-time employment can be found everywhere, making it the big chance for teens to have a number of choices and to look for weekend jobs and after-school
Their manual labor is no doubt more difficult than many part-time jobs taken by teenagers in American society. It is also inevitable that this labor will negatively impact their performance in school, essentially eliminating their opportunity for social mobility. Despite this sacrifice, they are often required to work in order to help their family survive
When someone who commits a crime is determined to be mentally inadequate to be held accountable for the crimes they have committed, there are things that we do to charge them, but in a lesser way because of their mental capacity. Which begs the question, why are we allowing children to be sentenced to life, when their brains aren’t fully developed? When a child commits a crime we look over that, and stop seeing them as children. We shouldn’t sentence children to a life in prison when their brains are not only underdeveloped, but also missing a good portion of gray matter.
In the essay, “Teenagers Have Stopped Getting Summer Jobs–Why?” by Derek Thompson, the author utilizes argumentative techniques–such as facts and statistics–as well as contrast, to illustrate the cause of the decline in summer employment, and how teens are not lazy, yet rather focusing on education. Furthermore, Thompson shows the cause of the decline of summer employment–and how teens are not lazy, yet focusing more on academics–through contrast. Initially, he illustrates how modern adolescents are focusing on education rather than labor. A study conducted by Thompson exhibits that, “The percent of recent high-school graduates enrolled in college–both two-year and four year–has grown by 25 percentage points.
Thesis: Part time jobs are beneficial to high school students if utilized correctly. Though part time jobs can be beneficial for high school students- teaching them skills and providing work experience- not everyone thinks so. In his essay “Working at McDonald’s”, Amitai Etzioni explains to his readers why part time jobs in fast food restaurants and places like them are bad for high school students. Firstly, he claims that there is no room for advancement on the career ladder at these part time jobs, but this is not true.
The topic of teenagers having jobs while in high school can be considered controversial and is definitely one that generates a lot of opinion both for and against this practice. Mr. Amitai Etzioni’s has a negative position on this issue as was stated in his article “Working at McDonald’s”. I on the other hand believe that having a job is a way for teenagers to learn how to be independent and obtain good working skills that will stay with them for a lifetime. This essay is an argument pro teenagers working while in high school. The concerns of the opposition will be addressed as well.
High youth unemployment is not as bad as most think it is. When teens aren’t working in the summer they are in the classrooms learning. In Derek Thompson’s essay, “Teenagers Have Stopped Getting Summer Jobs --- Why?” ,he talks about how teens are in the classrooms rather than getting jobs. Thompson supports his claim that students are staying in school instead of getting jobs by asking rhetorical questions and using logos by showing graphs and other statistics. In the first half of his essay Thompson presents his claim that teens aren’t working as much, not because they are lazy but because they are taking more summer classes.
I was only a high school freshman but I knew working was going to help my family. I started as a dishwasher and changed to busboy position, but quickly learned that working and being a student in high school changed things. Experiencing a normal teenage life was no longer an option. I also learned that when you work in a restaurant you have a lot of responsibilities.
Ben Sasse’s Op-Ed (EPL) Today, youth unemployment during the summer is an issue that is very common in the United States. The summer is a long break for most kids so many people wonder what is the best way for them to spend it. In Ben Sasse's opinion piece, "What to do with the Kids This Summer? Put 'Em to Work", he makes it clear that a teenager, among other things, should get a summer job in order to cultivate the necessary traits to become a successful adult. As a teenager myself with my own set of personal experiences and observances, I agree with Sasse's view that summer employment is the best way to build self-reliance among teenagers and that travel for kids is beneficial. I agree with Ben Sasse's claim that hard and meaningful work is vital to the development of a teeanger because it cultivates the traits of a successful adult, as seen in my own life.

The life of a teenager is not always as easy as it seems, especially when your parents are at your bag all the time, worrying if you are verbally abusing, disrespectful, unprotected, taking bad decisions or depressed.
