My Sport
The sport that I participate in is modern/contemporary dance at SCAD (Sarah Cookney Academy of Dance) in Fish Hoek. I dance every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:45 – 6:30. I have danced with Sarah from grade 5 to grade 8 and then again in grade 11 and 12. I feel that it’s probably the best form of exercise as it doesn’t feel like you are exercising and yet you are working on almost every muscle in your body. I feel that dancing has improved my fitness levels as in the beginning of the year I would run of stamina and get out of breath very easily but as we danced more and got into a dance that was very fast, my body slowly got fitter and I was not always out of breath after the dance.

Dancing builds strength by forcing the muscles to resist against a dancer's own body weight. Many styles of dance require jumping into the air. Jumping requires tremendous strength of the major leg muscles.
3. Endurance
Dance is physical exercise. Exercise increases endurance and stamina. Endurance is the ability of muscles to work hard for increasingly longer periods of time without fatigue. Regular dancing is great for improving endurance. Elevating the heart rate can increase stamina and as dancing is full of movement, increasing your heart rate is a normal part of the lesson.
4. Sense of Well-Being.
As dancing is a social activity it allows you to meet new people, socialize and exercise at the same time. Studies have shown that strong social ties and socializing with friends contribute to high self-esteem and a positive outlook therefore by joining a dance class; it can increase your self-confidence and build social skills. Because physical activity reduces stress and tension, regular dancing gives an overall sense of well-being.

I have been dancing for four years now and know for a fact that dancing is a sport. Dancers practice everyday to improve like other sports. I have danced before but it was not as serious until I joined Color Guard my freshman year. Color Guard was mainly contemporary and ballet.
It’s made me want to compete even more and, I want to win! As s dancer you never know what opportunities you’ll act so you have to be very versatile. You never know who’s watching you. I do almost every style of dance. Ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, musical theater, and a little bit of acro.
The 1920’s alone was an interesting period, but to learn more about how it has evolved is most definitely not a time waster. To start Dance is a form of art, from the music to the culture and the history behind it, dance has been a way people could express themselves for many decades. In the clubs, they did dance contests called marathons, which is when dance until can't dance anymore. In the late 1920s came the tango and the waltz, which still play a role in history today from dance shows like Dancing with the Stars to So You Think You Can Dance.
Maybe it’s not qualified as a “sport”, but it sure takes the hard work and dedication an athlete has to do it. It’s hard. Not only physically, but mentally, too. Sometimes I wonder if I really want to go through with it, through college and then a career. Do I really want to become a ballerina that may or may not make it in the dance world, earn very
Walking in on the first day of rehearsal, I expected that preparing for the show would be easy because I already knew the dances and the director’s expectations. I believed that everyone else had as much confident as me. I hoped I could go to rehearsal, follow instructions the director and choreographer gave, then leave. Once I arrive to the first dance rehearsal, I lost all the excitement I had anticipated.
Turning Around the Topic: Sport or Not? When you hear the word ‘sport’, you probably think of many things in your mind like soccer, football, softball, and even cheerleading but do you think of dance? One of the most common debates among dancers is whether or not dance should be considered a sport. If we’re being honest, dance doesn't even get close to the amount of credit it deserves.
To dance is to be knowledgeable about the stories of the ancestral heroes. Dancing, unlike painting and singing, is learnt at an early age. This allows large groups of people to demonstrate their clan rights in front of an audience. Dance is also seen as an occasion to entertain and to be entertained and through the work of dance to show their love for families and kin. It is for this reason that dance may be performed at the end of every day in some communities.
It requires a lot of endurance. Dance requires a lot of practice and can sometimes take up 2 or 3 days a week. Dance is a sport because it requires strength, practice and flexibility. Dance is a sport because it requires a lot of strength. The word athlete is defined as “a person trained or gifted in exercises or contests involving physical agility, stamina, or strength.”
Dance is a sport because it requires work ethic, athletic ability, and builds confidence and emotion. One reason why dance is a sport is because it requires work ethic. There are so many things dancers do that are equivalent to any other sport: “We compete, It’s a workout, We stretch, We gain muscle, You need good stamina, We have uniforms, We could have equipment, We have to remember things, We get injured, Dance is difficult.” (10 Reasons Why Dance Is A Sport).
It helps because we can get fresh air, run, and get our blood flowing. It also wakes us up and keeps us alert. When I am in the classroom for too long, I can get tired or anxious to go outside. Researchers from the medical college of Georgia did a 15 week study where they saw significant improvement in test scores with regular exercise (Livestrong.com).
Ballet has influenced not only dancers but many other people throughout the world. From the beginning, ballet has had a significant impact on the performing arts for both the performers and spectators. It has played an important role in helping to shape the performing arts into what it is today. The creation and development of ballet brought about a new way of expressing feelings and telling stories as a part of performing arts and has been the foundation for many other dance styles.
Explain why the Australian Dietary Guidelines were developed. The Australian Dietary Guidelines were developed because many Australians have died from chronic disease due to unhealthy diet. Experts have scientific evidence that switching diets to healthy eating can improve the quality of lives and wellbeing, as well as preventing chronic disease. The guidelines were developed to inform the general public about making healthy food choices.
The dancers were observed to be full of energy which showed through their movements and dancing. Every movement was sharp and clean. Furthermore, the action portion of the basic dance elements was seen through the dancer’s basic movements that turned into dancing. For example, in one scene, the actor jumped off the table and broke into a little skip-glide dancing movement.
I have always had a burning passion for dance since I was a young girl. My first time on a stage, I was immediately hooked. The overpowering feeling of a crowd of people watching me as I do what I love, is a feeling I have always admired. Dance has developed my character and personality in many different ways. I have been taught responsibility, discipline, integrity and much more.
