a. The passion I have for my future career is sometimes hard to put into words. Education has not always been my first choice as a career – originally I wanted to grow up and pursue a profession in the medical field. It wasn’t until middle school that I truly started to realize the impact of a teacher and the importance of educators. During middle school, I was bullied to the point of wanting to take my own life. I was also the student who was going through agony at home, while still having to go to school as if everything was ok. However, what I remember most during those hard times are the educators who were a light in my dark circumstance. Now, I am committed to becoming a safe haven for students just as some of my teachers and principal were for me. I believe my future job as a teacher is much more than just providing a child with knowledge of curriculum and standards; it is also important that I teach everyday life skills. I had the opportunity to have a number of amazing teachers. However, the most effective person throughout my schooling thus far has been my middle school principal Mrs. Sigler. As I mentioned before, I was bullied throughout middle school and there were many days that I didn’t see my way out of the torment. I cried myself to sleep a number of nights and wished not to wake up. I can honestly say that if it wasn’t for the relationship built with my principal that I wouldn’t be here today. Mrs. Sigler never knew what I was dealing with, but she always allowed me into her office and her office became my safe place. I was able to escape the bullying, even if only for thirty minutes. I am sure that running a school is no easy job, but she was never too busy for me. She had a way of always being there when I needed her!
